The Department of Public Works and Highways is constructing two new access roads that will lead to the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac. The agency said that the two new access roads will address the demand for better roads within the Clark Special Economic Zone.

Aims to provide motorists a faster and more convenient travel

The access roads are said to provide an alternate route to the New Clark City, and will also serve as connecting roads to tourism spots in Capas such as the Capas National Shrine, and Capas Death March Monument.

“The construction of this much-needed access road will provide an alternate route to NCC aside from the existing North Luzon Expressway/Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and serve as access roads to tourism spots in Capas,” said DPWH Secretary Mark Villar.

Villar identified the two roads via the Kalangitan Access Road as the New Clark City to Tarlac-Zambales Road (TZR), and the MacArthur Highway to New Clark City.

The New Clark City to Tarlac-Zambales Road is a four-lane road that comes with two bridge components with a total length of 6.4 km. It will be connected to the 6.22 km MacArthur Highway to New Clark City via Kalangitan Access Road. The DPWH said that this will result in a “continuous road network” that provides motorists faster and more convenient travel.

The agency shared that as of June 2021, the proposed road widening and construction of drainage along the MacArthur Highway to New Clark City is already completed. On the other hand, the construction of its reinforced concrete bridge in replacement of the temporary steel bridges is still ongoing, and it is said to be completed this year.

The DPWH also said that the 5.6 km portion of New Clark City to Tarlac-Zambales via Kalangitan Access Road is expected to be completed this year. Tarlac Second Disrict Engineer Neil Farala added that the construction of drainage and installation of solar LED street lights will be conducted in 2022.
