It joins the other five other airport design finalists including Hazrat Sultan International Airport in Kazakhstan, Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt in Germany, Athens International Airport in Greece, New Plymouth Airport in New Zealand, and LaGuardia Airport – Terminal B in New York.

“To be nominated by a prestigious award-giving body is already a great honor and pride, not just as part of the DOTr, but also most importantly as a Filipino. This will not be possible without the hard work of our partner agencies, the BCDA, LIPAD, our contractors, and dedicated workers,” said Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade.

“To regard the Clark International Airport worthy of world recognition is already a huge encouragement for us to keep going and a reassurance that we are on the right track,” added Tugade.

Of note, the French-based organization Prix Versailles will be announcing the winner among the six airport finalists in either late November or early December this year.

Designed to accommodate eight million passengers annually, the newly completed second Passenger Terminal Building in Pampanga is set to be operational by September 2021.

It is constructed with two components, namely the horizontal infrastructure (new apron and extension of taxiways) and the vertical infrastructure (parking facilities, secondary access road, among others).

The fit-out interior of the new terminal is being undertaken and funded by the Luzon International Premier Airport Development Corporation. With its world-class architectural design, it will cement its position as “Asia’s Next Premier Gateway.”

Soon, the DOTr will be accomplishing the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project which will provide a faster transport mode between Metro Manila and Clark International Airport. It is one of the many railway projects of the government agency to bring regions in Luzon closer.
