Alpine Alpenglow concept wants to rival MG Cyberster’s design

With the rise of new carbon emissions-free car models, automakers are coming up with ambitious designs that reflect the movement. Alpine has a new concept called the Alpenglow, which is said to mark a new era for the French car brand’s design language moving forward.

A new chapter unfolds

The Alpine Alpenglow is another hydrogen-powered supercar concept that looks out of this world, much like the earlier A4810. The former made its public appearance at the opening of the 2022 Paris Motor Show last October 17. No technical specifications are available yet, but the automaker did share some of the concept’s design details.

Only one person gets to drive the supercar where the seat is positioned at the center. On each side of the driver’s seat is a hydrogen tank, which is said to provide a full immersion into the vehicle’s performance features. The cockpit is inspired by the brand’s enthusiasm for motorsports including the geometric steering wheel similar to LMP1 (Endurance) racing cars.

Many of the Alpenglow’s design details are transparent such as the paddle shifters, high-tech spoiler, and part of the hood, among others. As for the glaring lighting system, the headlights in red symbolize a comet entering the atmosphere. Meanwhile, the bluish illumination of the taillights reflects the car’s use of hydrogen technology.

“Alpenglow’s mighty and lavish design hints at what Alpine cars will be like tomorrow and at our vision for motorsports moving forward,” said Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi.

“With hydrogen technology on board, we are strengthening our commitment to a responsible future and to keeping driving pleasure as real as ever,” added Rosi.

A glimpse into Alpine's future

This is not the first time we get to see a concept like the Alpine Alpenglow. Fellow European car brand MG unveiled the Cyberster last year with similar futuristic design cues. Both come with massive wheels, low ground clearance for a sportier appeal, and a carbon emissions-free powertrain.

But unlike the MG Cyberster that has been confirmed for production earlier this year, the Alpine Alpenglow appears to remain a concept. The automaker did reveal that it plans to roll out three electric vehicles (EVs): a performance-oriented version of the Renault 5, the GT X-Over crossover, and a new sports car that should replace the A110 in the lineup.
