AboitizPower launches electric-powered corporate fleet

The Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) has launched its own fleet of electric vehicles (EVs). These will serve as a part of the power company’s corporate vehicles.

According to the company, its new EV fleet contributes towards greener and cleaner mobility in the country. This move also reaffirms its support of the government’s Republic Act 11697, otherwise known as the Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA). 

During the power company’s EV fleet launch, AboitizPower CEO Manny Rubio said “As a leader in the energy industry, we want to incorporate innovations that will improve the efficiency and sustainability of our operations. The world is facing developments in climate change, global connectivity, population growth, urbanization, and digitalization, and these changes demand that businesses like ours transform to remain relevant.”

According to Rubio, the mobility sector accounts for 31.3 percent of the total energy consumption in the country, equivalent to 11 million tons of oil. To this end, Aboitiz’s switch from internal combustion vehicles (ICE) to EVs positions the company as a big contributor to the country’s ambitions to lessen our dependence on oil imports. It also cements AboitizPower in the forefront of the zero-emissions movement. 

The EVs will also help AboitizPower attain improved energy efficiency in its operations. It likewise aids the company in lessening overhead costs because EVs tend to have a more affordable per-kilometer-traveled maintenance cost than ICE vehicles. 

It has a range of around 300 kilometers

With regards to the new EV fleet itself, the units are the BYD T3 E-Van which boasts a range of around 300 kilometers, and an electric motor that can generate up to 134 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque. Inside, it features a modern cabin and a number of standard safety equipment. 

These T3 units will then be deployed in key three cities covered by AboitizPower subsidiaries. These include Visayan Electric, Davao Light, and Cotabato Light. All in all, the fleet will operate in an area that’s six times larger than Metro Manila.

Beyond its new fleet of T3 E-Vans, the company likewise declared that it will be further expanding its number of EV corporate four-wheeled vehicles and motorcycles by 30 percent in 2030. By 2040, the AboitizPower will have a DU fleet that’s 100 percent fully electric.
