Volkswagen Philippines launched the Crafter 35 L manual transmission model in the country in 2006. This is the only model and variant available in the Philippines. It is currently sold in two colors: blue and gray.
The Crafter is primarily catered towards those who are frequently on the road for business or leisure. Its spacious cabin is built to comfortably accommodate larger groups and heavy luggage. It is currently marketed starting at P3,000,000.
The Volkswagen Crafter sports the conventional design of a typical van with two front doors and two electric sliding doors for passengers. The van’s snout is significantly protruding to add more interior space. On the sides are muscle lines that add definition to the van’s huge, angular body.
The Crafter rides on 16-inch steel wheels. In front is a dominating, large black grille with the signature VW logo. Halogen headlamps are stocked vertically, placed adjacent to the grille.
Heading inside the Crafter, its dashboard and interiors are simple and straightforward which are typical for classic Volkswagen vehicles. However, one of its primary selling points is the 6 leather-clad captain seats with separate armrests, individually laid out for immensely comfortable traveling. Seats are strategically arranged to have a lot of space for legroom. Much to its passengers’ convenience, there are ample storage spaces in all four rows of seating that can accommodate luggage. Uniquely, it has 32-inch Samsung TV for entertainment purposes.
The tech and safety features of the Volkswagen Crafter 35 L are focused on the bare necessities needed for long-haul drives. It has an anti-lock brake system (ABS) for safety. The vehicle also sports an electronic stability control feature and the hill start assist technology that aid driving along tougher roads. In the car’s interior resides a touchscreen for multimedia and navigation.
The Volkswagen Crafter 35 L rides on a ladder on frame chassis. McPherson strut suspension remains in front and the live axle with leaf springs latched on the rear. This variant is rear-wheel driven with disc brakes on both front and rear wheels.
The Volkswagen Crafter 35 L has a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. It can produce 163 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and a power output of 400 Nm of torque. Power is directed to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Generally, the engine can power the Crafter through city driving and long-haul drives in comfort. The vehicle runs on diesel fuel which makes it more economical.
