Based on the Toyota Hilux platform, the Toyota Fortuner is a mid-size, 5-door SUV which first became available back in 2004 and since then has been through two model generations and two facelifts.
Currently, the Toyota Fortuner curiously enough is not available in Japan, North America, and Europe as they get other Toyota SUVs there like the 4Runner and the Hilux Surf.
On the outside, the Toyota Fortuner is to a degree sleeker than the Hilux which it is based on and probably much more aerodynamic due to its shape.
Inside, the Fortuner can fit up to seven people who are kept safe by a number of safety gear like front dual airbags, side airbags for the front and rear, anti-lock braking system, brake assist, EBD, and a stability control system. While older versions might not get these, they still have the numerous airbags and the highly-rated frame that can perform well in an event of an accident.
The Fortuner is powered by a 2.4 Inline-4 Diesel with a turbo-intercooler which is capable of 147 hp and alternatively a 2.7 inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine that can make up to 163 horsepower. Another engine for the 4x4 version is the 2.8 inline-4 diesel that can make 174 horsepower.
The Toyota Fortuner currently shares its market segment with the likes of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Nissan Terra, and the Isuzu Mu-X.
As for its variants here in the Philippines, the Fortuner has:
- Toyota Fortuner 2.4 G Diesel 4x2 MT
- Toyota Fortuner 2.4 G Diesel 4x2 AT
- Toyota Fortuner 2.4 V Diesel 4x2 AT
- Toyota Fortuner 2.8 V Diesel 4x4 AT
