No tip for the shipper? No ring for the doorbell? Let’s just stop and ruminate on autonomous cars that help deliver pizza. If you’re been waiting for these self-driving pizza delivery vehicles in many years, well brace yourself, “things” just got real. Recently, Ford has announced that it is partnering with Domino’s to develop autonomous vehicles used for the pizza delivery.
Your Domino’s pizza to be delivered via driverless car soon
That’s right, in the upcoming weeks across Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, one randomly selected group of Domino’s customers will get the chance to have their online pizza with delivery to their door by a Ford Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Research Vehicle.
This self-driving vehicle will have a Ford safety engineer at the wheel at all times, along with a few research workers, too. The manufacturer fitted the driverless car with GPS devices, so customers can even track the car on the Domino’s app. Each customer will receive a chosen unique keyword via SMS messages. The pizza can be retrieved using that keyword. This means you will have to come outside and type your unique code into a miniature keyboard mounted to the vehicle.

The test with this Ford-researched vehicle will help Ford and Domino’s find out how customers will interact with an autonomous vehicle. Ford wants to put fully autonomous vehicles plying the street by 2021 and said they need to know how self-driving cars can improve customer’s experience. Perhaps we can see no more worthwhile investment by working on autonomous vehicles for the pizza delivery. With this driverless vehicle, we will move to a truly large step for our species.
In the near future, we can expect they will put tech in a Ford Mustang. Wow, let's imagine how cool it will be to have your pizza delivered via a 2017 Ford Mustang, no driver necessary. No-to-distant future, right?
