Toyota Corolla Altis Nürburging pack is real

Toyota pulled an April Fool’s joke in October.

Toyota Thailand launches a sporty package for the Corolla Altis called the Nürburging pack. As the name suggests, the Nürburging pack consists of race-inspired enhancements including body kits from the front to the back that solidifies the overall look of the Japanese compact sedan, creating that track-ready appearance.

Perhaps the reason for the launching of the Nürburging package is to pay homage to Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) Thailand’s back-to-back victory at the 24 Hours of Nürburging endurance race (Super Production 3 Class). The reworked Toyota Corolla Altis won at the said competition in 2020 and 2021.

The race-inspired package comes with a blacked-out splitter, air scoops near the Toyota logo, front skirts, side skirts, rear skirts, and spoiler. All the said additions create an aerodynamic finish to the Corolla Altis. Nürburgring badges are embedded on the sides to showcase to everyone that it is the special edition version.

Looking at the body kits, one can say that the package only offers subtle design improvements. It doesn’t come with a massive spoiler or wider body kits seen on the actual Corolla Altis race car. Also, unlike the air scoops on the race car version, the Nürburging package provides fake ones for cosmetics.

Regardless, the Nürburging package is a good offering from Toyota Thailand considering that it is free through a promotion. Improvements on the performance are also featured in the package including a set of coil springs and an electronic accelerator control box for sharper throttle response.

A more distinctive look

Under the hood, there are two powertrain options for the Thai-spec Corolla Altis. The first is a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that makes 138 hp and 177 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the other option also uses a 1.8-liter mill but is paired with an electric motor.

As said earlier, the Nürburging package can be availed of in the Thai market for free through an ongoing promotion. Without the promotion, the package costs THB 42,000 (or around Php 64,000).
