Toyota Motor Corporation is tapping into the world of electrification with the bZ4X all-electric SUV. The bZ4X is the automaker’s first mass-produced battery-electric car, aimed to spearhead its commitment to expanding its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio.

But it seems like the strategic move is having a bad start as Toyota just rolled out a safety recall for around 2,700 units of the bZ4X. The recall aims to mend the model’s wheel bolts that could become loose over time. If it will not be addressed, the faulty component could become a major safety issue.
Among the 2,700 units, 2,200 were selected for Europe, 260 for the United States, 110 for Japan, and 10 for Canada. The root of the problem is still under investigation but Toyota did mention that units produced between March and June are most likely affected.
Since the Subaru Solterra is based on the Toyota bZ4X, Subaru is also recalling around 2,600 units of its first all-electric SUV. The two models pose a risk of crashing especially during sharp turns and hard braking. No remedy is available as of this writing.

As such, Toyota advised that owners shouldn’t drive their bz4X units until the remedy is performed. Dealers will contact owners whose units are affected by the recall once a solution is found. And as always, the recall is free of charge.
“We sincerely apologize for any convenience this causes you,” said Toyota on its website. “We would have repaired it as soon as possible, but we are investigating the details.”
Aside from the bZ4X, the RAV4 HEV is another Toyota model that is recalled this year. This is a concern for some Filipino consumers as Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) brought the said model last February 2022. The issue is caused by faulty actuator software that can increase the risks of understeer, oversteer, and rollover.
