Previously, we’ve reported that the NLEX Corporation, a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) has been rehabilitating the old Bigaa and Meycauayan bridges in Bulacan. These major bridges were built way back in the 1960s, and thus were well and truly outdated.
The rehabilitated Meycauayan Bridge
The work on these two bridges started back in June. Fast forward to September and all lanes for both bridges are now open to the public ahead of schedule. Updates that were done to the said bridges were the replacement of slabs and girders to strengthen their structures.
According to NLEX Corporation President and General Manager Luigi L. Bautista, both bridges can now provide smoother and safer travel for all motorists. Furthermore, he noted that the company has managed to complete all necessary construction works despite the restrictions brought by the ongoing pandemic, as well as some challenges that were caused by inclement weather conditions.
With regards to the completion of the bridge’s updates, Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando, Meycauayan City Mayor Linabelle Villarica, and Bocaue Mayor Jose Santiago Jr were all pleased with the news. As such, the said officials expressed their thanks to NLEX for its continuing effort to provide safer and better means of travel for everyone in the region. The officials also noted that the improved and updated bridges will also ensure the ease of travel for health workers, economic frontliners, as well as the unhampered delivery of goods and services.
For both bridges, all lanes are now open and operational
Besides the private sector entities involved in the bridge rehabilitation projects, The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region III also lent a hand in the opening of temporary two-lane service roads in Meycauayan to allow for the closure and construction works of the Meycauayan bridge. This detour served as a support of the NLEX’s own traffic management measures which included zipper lanes, the deployment of traffic marshals, etc.
