An intensified clearing operation is one of Nebrija’s orders of business.

The new Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Romando Artes has appointed Edison “Bong” Nebrija as the head of the agency’s Task Force Special Operations (TFSO) and Anti-Colorum Unit.

Nebrija is now in charge to clear Metro Manila roads from obstructions that could hinder traffic flow. The new role is given to Nebrija as the MMDA prepares for the additional vehicular volume as Metro Manila is now under Alert Level 1

Being the head of the agency’s TFSO unit is not something new to Nebrija as he has held the said post during the time of late MMDA chairman Danilo Lim. The current MMDA chief shared that Nebrija is the right man for the job in clearing the Mabuhay Lanes from illegally parked vehicles as well as other types of obstructions.

“We trust the capability of Nebrija to enforce traffic rules and regulations beyond the stretch of EDSA, and clear Mabuhay Lanes and other major thoroughfares of traffic obstructions,” said Artes.

This means that Nebrija’s role is not only limited to EDSA alone but on all Metro Manila roads. Nebrija shared that the TFSO unit will concentrate on providing alternative routes to motorists. To do this, Nebrija will be conducting clearing operations along different roads under MMDA’s jurisdiction.

“We will intensify our clearing operations so that motorists would have alternate routes aside from EDSA. We are thankful that the management is supportive of our programs to ease traffic in Metro Manila,” Nebrija said.

Last July 2021, the MMDA has brought back the Mabuhay Lanes and encouraged motorists to use it as an alternative route to EDSA. Former MMDA chief Benhur Abalos Jr. has even conducted clearing operations on the said alternate roads to allow for better traffic flow.

Traffic Operations Officer (TOO) IV Jeffrey Torres replaces Nebrija as the head of EDSA Special Traffic and Transport Zone. Torres’ main objective is to speed up traffic flow on EDSA as per the directive of the new MMDA chief Artes.

Torres shared that he will continue Nebrija’s effort when it comes to EDSA traffic management. He also wants to maximize the visibility of MMDA’s traffic enforces in EDSA.

Meanwhile, Artes also appointed John Maquinto as head of the Northern Traffic Enforcement District.
