Ford to launch electric SUV, new pickup truck in 2025: Report

Ford is planning to launch an all-new electric-powered SUV and a new pickup truck in 2025. The Blue Oval brand even teased these two upcoming models during an event attended by  Doug Field, the company’s chief advanced product development and technology officer.

The said report comes from a tweet posted by Automotive News journalist Michaell Martinez. The said tweet further went on to say that the EV SUV seems to slot in the same market segment as the Expedition. More specifically, it will come in a three-row configuration. The pickup truck meanwhile, might be the successor of the F-150 Lightning EV which is currently sold in the North American market.  

Regarding output figures, that remains to be a mystery. The source did indicate, however, that the SUV in particular will feature a 350-mile (563 kilometers) range. This sounds impressive, especially considering that the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning’s range with the extended battery pack already clocks in at 514 km. 

That said, this points towards the possibility that the Blue Oval brand might be expecting significant developments in its EV battery technologies. Specifically, the brand’s research and development department might’ve found a way to make the brand’s batteries more energy dense. Barring that, Ford simply could’ve made them larger.

Other than those tidbits, not much was shared about these models. We can see, however, that these two upcoming models will give Ford an edge in the market. This is especially true with the electric-powered SUV since vehicles in this segment continue to gain popularity in the global market. 

Do remember though that the Ford Explorer EV does exist, but it is currently limited to the European market. Furthermore, the Explorer EV slots in at a different segment as it is a unibody crossover. The upcoming EV meanwhile, is speculated to share a platform with the upcoming fully electric pickup truck and so it might be getting a full ladder-frame chassis just like the current combustion version of the Expedition.
