Hopefully, this can ease up traffic by hastening maintenance works.

One of the biggest concerns that the government needs to address is the country’s infamous traffic. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is taking part in easing traffic conditions in the National Capital Region (NRC) by acquiring new road maintenance equipment that has an estimated cost of Php 32 million.

Newly procured equipment

With the new road maintenance equipment, the agency’s workforce can finish their maintenance activities faster and more efficiently. As we all know, roads that are under maintenance tend to result in heavy traffic in surrounding areas. This is more apparent during rush hours, causing disturbance among the motoring public.

DPWH NCR Director Nomer Abel P. Canlas led the distribution of the new equipment during the turnover ceremony. It is distributed to nine district engineering offices in Metro Manila, replacing outdated and manual equipment that can be challenging to use for roadside workers.

The new equipment aims to improve the agency's services

Included on the new equipment list are 10 units each of an air compressor with a jackhammer, a paint spray gun with an air compressor, and a heavy-duty steel cart for storage. These are expected to bring quality service to the public and reduce traffic in Metro Manila as road maintenance works should be completed faster.

“Power sweepers have also arrived and will be distributed to DPWH implementing offices. I assure everyone that this is only the start of our initiative of upgrading and modernizing the facilities and resources in the region to deliver more efficient, quality service to the public,” said Canlas.

The new road maintenance equipment is a testament to DPWH’s commitment to improving its services for the Filipino people. All of the agency’s efforts are led by its new head, Manual M. Bonoan. He worked as San Miguel Corporation Tollways’ (SMC) President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) before assuming his current position at DPWH.
