The agency said it is determined to make the transport system better for everyone.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is currently conducting a survey that aims to provide a more accessible transportation system for persons or passengers with limited mobility. The Inclusive Transport Survey intends to have better knowledge and understanding in regards to the current commuting experience of persons with limited mobility.

The Inclusive Transport Survey tackles a variety of scenarios that will allow the DOTr to pinpoint the specific areas of concern when it comes to the commuting experience of persons with limited mobility. It has a survey for each mode of transport such as the following:

- Road Transportation (Driving, Bus, Jeep, Tricycle, UV, etc.)

- Rail Transportation (MRT, LRT, PNR)

- Air Transportation (Domestic or International Airplanes and Airports)

- Water Transportation (Sea ports, ships, etc.)

The agency is hoping that it can formulate a framework to make the public transportation system more accessible for everyone including but not limited to children, senior citizens, women, persons with disabilities (PWD), and indigenous peoples. This is why the DOTr is urging all passengers with limited mobility to take part in its nationwide survey.

The agency added that the said survey is part of its efforts to develop and regulate the country’s transportation systems. The main goal is to provide a “barrier-free transportation system that will provide equal opportunities to women, passengers with limited mobility, and other vulnerable transportation users.”

The Inclusive Transport Survey can be answered until March 7, 2022.

The survey could be DOTr’s answer to the viral photo that circulated around the web last January. The viral photo showed a handicapped person who was forced to take the stairs at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Recto station while security personnel carried the person’s wheelchair.

The Philippine Star posted the photo last January 5, 2022, which was sent by netizen Kevin Bola P. The photo sender told the Philippine Star that he felt sorry for the handicapped person citing the “kind of hassle being a PWD.”

"There's a lot of elevators in LRT and even MRT that are not functioning — it made me conclude that maintenance of these lifts is not being focused on... DOTr should focus on this area," Kevin Bola told the Philippine Star.
