According to the company, the coastal clean-up will ensure that San Pascual’s coasts will be ready for the upcoming nesting season of the Olive-Ridley sea turtle. The said species of sea turtle is currently listed as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

In total, CPI managed to collect 685 bags of non-biodegradable and biodegradable waste from the aforementioned coast. Besides making the nesting ground clean and ready, the activity also aims to promote the spirit of volunteerism among CPI executives and employees, as well as the people of San Pascual.

Of note, CPI has been organizing coastal cleanups in the said location for 10 years now. As per CPI, ten Olive Ridley sea turtle nests were spotted near Chevron Batangas Terminal, which shares a coastline with San Pascual. The company itself has also released a total of 111 hatchlings to date - a sure sign that their coastal cleanup efforts are working.

Around 80 CPI executives and employees participated in the activity.

To that end, CPI vows to continue making the said shoreline a suitable habitat for sea creatures. Their efforts in conservation are related to the company’s vow to protect the environment as a whole, as well as human safety and livelihood.

For those not in the know, CPI is a part of Chevron - a global leader in crude oil, transportation fuels, natural gas, lubricants, petrochemicals, and additives. Currently, the company is looking into ways of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. It is doing this by exploring the use of renewable energy sources, methane gas management, energy storage, carbon capture, as well as using hydrogen as fuel.
