It's quite a picturesque bridge especially at night

On April 5, 2022, Tuesday, the new Binondo-Intramuros Bridge was finally opened. Spearheading this ceremony was President Rodrigo Duterte, who personally thanked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

With its completion, the Binondo-Intramuros might be able to provide some sort of respite from the rising traffic congestion levels in Metro Manila. Apart from that, it will also provide motorists with a faster route between Intramuros and Binondo. Specifically, it provides a link between Solana Street and San Fernando Street.

The bridge itself is a four-lane type, providing passage for two-way traffic. In total, it spans 680 meters, and it can handle up to 30,000 motorists daily. The said bridge also features protected walkways and bike lanes. It also features plenty of illumination, thermoplastic road lines, as well as an ample amount of road signages.

For those unaware, the Binondo-Intramuros bridge is a basket-handle tied-arch bridge. It is compliant with modern day seismic specifications, and it was also designed to become an iconic addition to the Metro Manila skyline.

All-in-all, the said bridge project costs a total of Php 3.39 billion. A huge portion of this budget was provided via a grant from the People’s Republic of China. To this end, President Duterte also expressed his gratitude to the aforementioned during the inauguration event.

Work on the bridge in question started way back in July 2018. So in total, the construction time for this project lasted 3 years, 11 months, and 20 days.

Also, note that the new Binondo-Intramuros bridge is one of the 12 bridges within the Metro Manila Logistics Network. The said bridges are to go over the Manggahan Floodway, Marikina River, and the Pasig River. In total, three were already completed.

Do you welcome the addition of the Binondo-Intramuros bridge to the Metro Manila Road network? Are you planning on visiting this new bridge soon?
