Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) announced the second leg of the 2023 Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) Vios Cup is happening on September 9. The motorsports activities will start as early as 9:30 a.m. at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) in Pampanga, with the event hosting a livestream for fans at home.
The second round of the Vios Cup is set for the weekend
The winners of the first round from different classes will look to defend their top spot in the standings.
Under the Circuit Championship category, Jarond Mesina of Toyota Team Cebu won the promotional class, while Bern Corpino of Toyota Balintawak Inc. – Obengers Racing Team was victorious in the sporting class. The super sporting class saw Ian Rosales of Toyota Team Cebu crossing the line first.
Media and influencers will also make their return to the track. Patricia Tenorio of Zigwheels took first place in the promotional media class, while Siegwald Go of C! Magazine won the sporting media class. Cesar Miguel of Philkotse also finished second in the promotional media class.
The Vios Cup is a one-make race series
The promotional influencer class saw an all-female podium led by Bianca Yao. The sporting influencer class awarded Miguel Romulo as the winner, besting second placer Lexi Mendiola and third placer Reph Bangsil.
Apart from the racers, the Toyota GR Supra and GR Yaris will add excitement to the weekend. The Toyota Altis GR-S HEV race car will also join the Circuit Race and Autocross Challenge – which should highlight the performance a hybrid system can offer.
TMP will also take the chance to showcase the next-generation Tamaraw concept at the CIS. The concept was unveiled last month with a single-cab pickup truck and modern jeepney configurations. It is set to be produced at the automaker’s Santa Rosa, Laguna plant sometime in 2024.
