Toyota Raize vs Toyota Wigo: TMP’s affordable models compared

In March 2022, Toyota Motor Philippines brought in the all-new Raize subcompact crossover. And like the ever-popular Toyota Wigo, this new crossover is also affordable.

This then, might cause a dilemma for many would-be car buyers. Should one go for the small crossover? Or the small hatchback?

To help you pick a choice, let us compare the specs of the Toyota Raize E 1.2 MT against the Toyota Wigo TRD S 1.0 AT. The Raize E MT, after all, is only more expensive than the Wigo TRD S by Php 46,000.

Regarding exterior equipment, both the Raize E and the Wigo TRD S come standard with halogen headlamps, LED taillights, and front foglamps.

Toyota Raize vs Toyota Wigo: Engine and Performance

For propulsion, the Toyota Raize E MT uses a 1.2-liter inline-3 gasoline engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. Power is then sent to its front wheels. At maximum, the Raize’s 1.2-liter engine can produce up to 87 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque.

On the flip-side, the Wigo TRD S utilizes a 1.0 inline-3 gasoline engine that can produce up to 66 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque. It then uses a four-speed automatic gearbox sending power to its front wheels.

To sum up the Toyota Raize vs Toyota Wigo performance comparison, it is clear that the crossover is the more powerful model. That’s only fair since its engine displacement is a bit larger than the Wigo’s.

As a side note, the Wigo is also available with a five-speed manual gearbox. In turn, the Raize can also be had with a continuously variable transmission.

In terms of suspensions, both models are similar in that they both use a MacPherson strut for the front, and a torsion beam for the rear. Both models also use a front disc brake, a rear drum brake, as well as a hand-operated manual parking brake.

Toyota Raize vs Toyota Wigo: Conclusion

As you might have judged after reading the comparison sections above, its plain to see that the Wigo is still the least complicated model in Toyota Philippines’ lineup. It gets a less powerful engine than the Raize, and it has even less safety features. It might even offer less interior space seeing as to how smaller it is than the Raize.

So for a Php 46,000 difference, the Raize E sure offers plenty over the smaller hatchback model.

Then again, we’re also quite sure that the Wigo won’t be displaced nor overshadowed by the Raize anytime soon. Plenty of folks, after all, prefer a compact, if not the most compact model they can realistically get their hands on. Also, the TRD S in particular comes with an attractively aggressive body kit so there’s that.

If safety is a major concern for you though, you might want to lean more towards the Raize E.
