SubscribeDespite being one of the longest-established van models, the Toyota Hiace 2018 is still preferred by many drivers, particularly Filipinos. Let’s find out the reason why this van could get that popular in a SUV-loving country like the Philippines.
The Toyota Hiace 2018 is available in four variants: Commuter, Grandia GL, Super Grandia, and Super Grandia LXV. Each of them has its own distinct car shape.
The first variant is a basic van with a narrow body, while the Grandia GL, and Super Grandia have a wider body. Lastly, the Super Grandia LXV is designed with a long wheelbase and high roof.
With different exterior features, it’s no surprise that the price of each Hiace variant also varies, starting from P1,373,000 to P2,619,000.
Even though the 2018 Hiace has the same design as the 2005 model, it still manages to look up-to-date (probably thanks to the flush windows design). The only changes this model had were some tweaks to its cosmetic surface.
On the front, there are robust headlamps made from chrome, making the grille stand out beautifully. The bumper is redesigned to give a stronger look.
Next up, 16-inch alloys and flush, distinguishable windows adorn the sides, giving the Toyota van a timeless look that never runs out of style.
Lastly, the taillights on the rear really caught our attention with their eye-catching aerodynamic effects.
Overall, the exterior of this van is pretty simple. Some may even find it boring. Yet it's a solid car, and the surface is only the preparation for what's inside.

While other cars have a sleek appearance yet limited interior, the reverse is true with the Toyota Hiace 2018.
It has a boxy shape that pretty much resembles a room, which might be boring when it comes to exterior design but in exchange, it helps maximize inside space for passengers and cargo. Furthermore, you can increase its cargo area by folding unused seats.

In older versions, the Philippine-spec Toyota Hiace used a 2.5-liter diesel engine. However, Toyota decided to make an upgrade for the 2018 version, so now it operates using a 3.0-liter inline-4 diesel engine.
Undoubtedly, this welcomed change increases the Toyota Hiace's speed and pulling power greatly.
There aren't many new or remarkable technologies used for the Hiace, as this is only a van intended to carry many people and/or cargo.
As for the features, the Toyota Hiace 2018 has a well-thought-out safety feature including dual-airbags and seatbelts for every seat.
From the Grandia GL (P1,784,000) to higher-priced variants, there are also anti-lock brakes installed. The higher the price, the more features this van has (more space, leather seats, etc.).

That was our brief review for the 2018 Toyota Hiace. Maybe it doesn't have the most attractive design, but it does its job very well as a van.
Philkotse.com believes the Hiace is perfect for people who drive (or deliver goods) for a living, as it is one of the vans which has the most usable interior space in the market.
