The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is assisting the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in apprehending unauthorized motorists who are using the EDSA Bus Lane. LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said that motorists who drive through the bus lane on EDSA are becoming more rampant.

As such, Mendoza has ordered the deployment of additional LTO personnel in some areas of the EDSA Bus Lane. The LTO Chief said that erring motorists have grown accustomed to passing through the exclusive bus lane along EDSA

“Nagiging bisyo na ng ilang mga abusadong motorista ang paggamit ng EDSA Bus Carousel,” Mendoza said.

The agency recognizes that the MMDA has limited personnel to continuously monitor and apprehend unauthorized motorists who use the EDSA Bus Lane. Mendoza also admits that the LTO has the same problem when it comes to having sufficient traffic enforcers.

“We recognize the limited manpower of the MMDA to strictly enforce and while the LTO has the same problem, we will tap some of our enforcers to reinforce our brothers in the MMDA in keeping an eye on the EDSA Bus Carousel,” Mendoza shared.

Despite that, Mendoza assured the public that the LTO would act swiftly in apprehending erring motorists and strictly enforcing the proper use of the EDSA Bus Lane.

The LTO is now also conducting an investigation in regards to the incident wherein a motorist almost hit an MMDA enforcer in a bid to escape apprehension after being caught using the EDSA Bus Lane. The agency said that the incident happened last September 21.

The MMDA has been repeatedly reminding unauthorized motorists to stay out of the EDSA Bus Lane. Private vehicles should not use or drive through the EDSA Bus Lane as the innermost lane on the said thoroughfare is reserved for city buses and vehicles used for emergency response such as ambulances, fire trucks, and police patrol cars.
