The Department of Transportation held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Anonas and Camp Aguinaldo stations. These two are one of the many components of the massive Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).
Groundbreaking for MMSP's Contract Package 103
During the said groundbreaking ceremony, DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista expressed his gratitude towards the government of Japan for supporting the MMSP. He then shared that the MMSP is a huge step for providing comfort and convenience to Filipino commuters, and it will likewise catalyze the country’s economic rebound.
He also added that overlapping multi-sectoral support for the said project is felt. This of course is apparent due to the fact that the groundbreaking ceremony took place inside Camp Aguinaldo, a military facility.
Note that a project this large will have to be broken into components. To this end, both Anonas and Camp Aguinaldo stations are part of the MMSP’s Contract Package 103, along with two underground tunnels.
Remember also that this follows the previous groundbreaking ceremony for the Ortigas and Shaw Boulevard stations and tunnels which happened back in October 2022. That section, in turn, falls under the MMSP’s contract package 104.
This massive project will cut through eight cities within the Metro. It stretches from Valenzuela City to Parañaque City, and it will also feature a branch line linking the said rail system to Terminal 3 in Ninoy Aquino National Airport.
It will then span a total length of 33 kilometers and will consist of 17 stations. It can likewise handle up to 519,000 passengers every day.

These 17 stations consist of the Anonas Station, Camp Aguinaldo Station, East Valenzuela Station, Quirino Station, Tandang Sora Station, North Avenue Station, Quezon Avenue Station, East Avenue Station, Ortigas Station, Shaw Station, 11th Avenue Station, McKinley Parkway Station, Lawton Station, Senate-DepEd Station, Food Terminal Junction (FTI) Station, Bicutan Station, and the NAIA Terminal 3 Branch Line Station.
Once finished, it will be the country’s first-ever underground railway system. According to the DOTR, one of the many advantages it presents to commuters is the ability to cut down travel time between NAIA and Quezon City to just 45 minutes.
