Manufactured by Suzuki since 1979, the Alto brand has gone through a number of models both in Japan and for the rest of the world. Here in our country, the Philippine-spec Suzuki Alto is foremost known as a small, very affordable compact car.
In its home country, the Alto belongs to a unique class of vehicle known as the “Kei car” which are typically small vehicles with low displacement engines. These vehicles in Japan are quite popular due to having smaller road tax fees.
Even though, the Alto is no longer available in the Suzuki Philippines' current new car lineup, it is still one of the most-searched for cars in the local market, largely thanks to its decent equipment at reasonable price point.
The Suzuki Alto, either brand new or pre-owned, is still a cheap car to own
For your further information, the Alto is now replaced by the Suzuki S-Presso Philippines. This new hatchback has drawn a lot of attention from local car enthusiasts since its launch even though it actually didn't have a formal release due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine.

The version available here in the country owns a modern looking with a lighter corrugated roof for more stability, a sleeker rear window, and large tail lights for added visibility.
No-fuss, no muss. Easy access to the trunk with decent looking taillights
Despite being one of the smallest cars available right now, the Suzuki Alto 2020 actually has a decent ground clearance of 160 mm making it capable of handling typical Philippine road conditions.
As for the interior of the Suzuki Alto, it can be considered as sufficiently comfortable and can comfortably fit four people. While the fine print will say it can seat five which it can, the dimensions of the car and the inline-3 engine in real-world conditions would indicate otherwise.
In terms of amenities, Suzuki Alto is a bit Spartan. It does not have a touchscreen infotainment system nor does it have a navigation system or Bluetooth Connectivity. The 2DIN audio system does support FM/AM radio, a CD player, and there’s an aux jack.
A very convenient trunk of the Alto
Equally small is its 800cc inline-3 engine which makes 47Hp and 68 Nm of peak torque. While those figures sound minuscule, it does propel the equally small Alto just right. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.
While it's not really that powerful, the Alto's engine does get it up to speed sufficiently

First off, the biggest selling point of the Suzuki Alto, while it was still available in the Suzuki PH's lineup, was that it was the cheapest vehicle that you can buy brand new.
The Alto is also mechanically simple as such it is easy to fix, parts are cheap, and fuel economy is actually pretty good at an average of 20 km/L. The Celerio does but it in that department at 27.7 km/L but the Alto is cheaper to acquire.
As of now when we can no longer be the first owner of a brand new Alto, many are still willing to spend money on a 2nd hand Suzuki Alto.
In terms of gadgets, the Alto does have a decent air conditioner, has a trip meter, headlight leveler and a rear wiper and washer and a rear windshield defogger. The entertainment system however as we’ve said before is very basic.
Now, in cars in general, you get what you pay for and seeing that the Alto is very cheap, the car has a number of flaws and disadvantages you will have to consider.
For one thing, it does not have much in the way of road presence at all and that is really scary if you decide to take the said car on the highway or even on EDSA.
Another point is that the engine might be underpowered especially on the highway and most especially if you decide to take full-sized adults. Also, legroom is a problem for taller folk.
