2024 GAC GS8 4WD comes with P2.548 million introductory price

The 2024 GAC GS8 4WD is officially launched for the Philippine market with a special introductory price of Php 2,548,000. It promises the same level of refinement and luxury as the GS8 2WD while providing more in the way of off-road capability.

Launched at the GAC Philippines’ Discover Drive, the GS8 4WD is already available for reservation at all of the brand’s dealerships nationwide. GAC Motor PH said that the GS8 4WD has “the same features” as the 2WD variant of the said SUV along with some enhancements.

Exterior

That said, the 2024 GAC GS8 4WD comes with a familiar boxy exterior combined with modern design elements. It also gets an intricately patterned grille, a pair of stylish-looking LED headlamp clusters, and an angular front bumper. Its front end also gets LED daytime running lamps, rain-sensing wipers, and a soundproof windshield.

The similarities with its 2WD sibling continue when the 4WD version is viewed from the side. It likewise comes with a set of distinctive 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a pair of power-folding side mirrors, and black plastic claddings on its wheel arches. The GAC SUV’s rear end also gets a pair of LED taillights, a power tailgate, and a dual-tip exhaust setup. A panoramic sunroof is then found on its top.

Interior

Inside, the GS8 4WD can provide an ample amount of interior space for up to seven occupants including the driver.

Its front cabin then shares the same arrangement as the 2WD trim with its dash still dominated by a huge touchscreen. Its driver, meanwhile, gets access to a digital gauge cluster, a push-to-start button, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The 4WD trim even gets the same fancy gear selector as the 2WD trim.

One addition to this new variant is a drive mode selector for dealing with various off-road and on-road driving conditions. The front central armrest compartment now also comes with a ventilation function.

Other than those new bits, the GS8 4WD comes fitted with a triple-zone automatic climate control system, leather seats, second-row and third-row AC vents, and electronic sliding second-row seats. 

Tech & Safety

As mentioned above, the GS8 4WD has a huge touchscreen. Specifically, its display is a huge 14.6-inch unit. Like on the lower-spec 2WD, this infotainment system links to smartphones via an Easy Connection mirroring app, Bluetooth, and USB. It also gets a wireless smartphone charging pad.

Paired to the said screen is a 10-piece Alpine Sound System. This is new to the GS8, and it is only available on the 4WD version. 

Handling safety for the GS8 4WD is the same standard kit that’s found on the GS8 2WD. It gets a total of six airbags, anti-lock braking, a digital video recording device, a 3D 360-degree view parking camera, stability control, tire pressure monitoring, hill-start assist, hill-hold control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, etc. 

Reinforcing those standard safety features is a collection of advanced driver-assistive technologies. Chief among these are adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, etc. 

Engine

The 2024 GS8 4WD uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that’s found on the 2WD version, which delivers 248 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. It still uses the same eight-speed automatic gearbox. It likewise gets eco, comfort, and sport drive modes. 

Where the GS8 2WD is a front-wheel-drive, the newer version has its power sent to all four wheels. This allows for additional drive modes like we’ve mentioned above. According to the brand’s global specs, these are mud, sand, and snow.

Other than that, the GS8 4WD’s suspension system uses a MacPherson strut for the front and a multi-link for the rear. It then gets an electronic parking brake, and disc brakes for all four wheels. 

Booking for reservations for the All-New GS8 4WD SUV is ongoing at all GAC Motor dealerships nationwide. All units come with a five-year warranty and customer deliveries will begin “very soon.”

The next-generation 2025 GAC GS8 is a midsize, seven-seater SUV. In the Philippine market, its 4x2 variant comes with an introductory price of Php 2,398,000, while the 4x4 version is priced at Php 2,648,000. 

Under the hood of the GAC GS8 is a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that can make up to 248 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The said engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. 

The GS8 size-wise, spans 4,980mm long, is 1,950mm wide, and 1,780mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,920mm.  

Locally, the 2025 GAC GS8 competes against the Toyota Fortuner, Mazda CX-8, Mazda CX-9, Nissan Terra, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, and Ford Everest, among others.

GAC GS8 Launch

The GAC GS8 first debuted in China back in 2021. It was then previewed at the 2022 MIAS, before its official launch in 2023. The 4x4 top-spec version was then brought into the local market in August 2023.

The only trim of the Philippine-spec GAC GS8 is equipped with LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, and rear fog lamps. Also present on this SUV is a panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, power-folding side mirrors, automatic headlamps, and a set of 20-inch alloy wheels.

Keeping all of its seven occupants cool is a three-zone automatic air-conditioner. All seats are then wrapped in leather. 

Provided for the driver of the GS8 is an electronically adjustable driver’s seat, a leather steering wheel, paddle shifters, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a push-to-start button, a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, etc. 

Technology & Safety Features

The GS8 has a comprehensive safety kit that consists of dual front airbags, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock braking with EPS, stability control, hill-start control, hill-descent control, tire pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child seat anchors, engine immobilizer, etc. 

Supporting those standard safety features are adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, etc.  

Entertaining the occupants of the GS8 is a 14.6-inch touchscreen with Phone mirroring, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. The said headunit is then linked to a total of eight speakers. Also present are a number of charging ports, as well as a wireless smartphone charger.  

Platform & Chassis

The GS8 uses a MacPherson strut for the front and a multi-link suspension for the rear. Braking for this model is then handled by disc brakes for all four wheels, as well as an electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function.

The GAC GS8 is one of the most powerful midsize seven-seater SUVs on the market right now. Well, barring that of some luxury models. It is also on-par with its competitors when it comes to amenities and safety features.  

The only thing that we see that might hold it back is its high starting price. There’s also the fact that it only has one variant in the local market.
