SubscribeThe Jeep Wrangler, one of the most iconic vehicles ever made which has been manufactured by Jeep since 1986. Currently in its fourth generation with the designation; “JL”, its roots can be traced back to the Willys made CJ or Civilian Jeeps in the 1940s.
And yes, the claim to fame of the Jeep itself was during world war two with the robust and rugged military spec multi-purpose vehicle which bore the same name.

The modern iteration of the Jeep is quite a departure from the basic, barebones CJ from the 40s. Appearance-wise, the spirit of the olden Jeep still lives on but throughout the years, they have made the Jeep and more specifically, the Wrangler, more suited for the modern roads and for the ever-changing tastes of the modern consumer.
The Jeep Wrangler is very much geared for traveling through harsh terrain
With the JL Wrangler, the front bears some resemblance to the old CJ models. There’s those round-shaped headlights, the iconic seven-slotted grille and of course those very rugged wheel arches.
From the side, you can also glean the rugged design which immediately tells you that the Jeep Wrangler is very much geared for traveling through harsh terrain.
The wheel wells are enormous and can accommodate most all-terrain or even off-road dedicated tires and the 275 mm ground clearance is more than enough to tackle rough roads here in the Philippines.

The Jeep Wrangler, while popular here in the Philippines among off-road enthusiasts for the longest time, are now being brought by those who do not frequent the mountains and off-road tracks at all.
Why? Because our roads suck and we have floods and the Jeep Wrangler be it the Ultimate four-door mid-size class or the two-door can excellently handle those.
Apart from that though, the two-door Jeep Wrangler that we’re talking about for this article is outright robust and powerful both on and off the trail.
While it might not be the best handling vehicle or SUV available right now, its body construction, it’s under chassis, and even the stock suspension can take on whatever you put it through, like the aforementioned floods that we have here in Metro Manila.
Also for those more serious off-roaders out there, the Wrangler as a platform is very versatile and so you can make it fit a multitude of purposes. Towing? It can do that even as without much modifications. As a Baja vehicle? With minor tweaks with the suspension and the right tires, it can do that.
As a rock climber? Yes, there are parts for the Wrangler that can enable it to do just that. So all in all, it’s very much intended to take on the not so well-traveled road or even when there’s no road at all.
The Wrangler is an off-road powerhouse that can be made to do more like rock climbing
Take in mind though that the ride quality of the Wrangler, and by extension most Jeep models, suffer due to their leaning towards an off-road focus. It is doable to use the Wrangler as a daily driver within the Metro but it can be quite a tedious affair.
Also, don’t forget to bring hearing protection because that powerful engine’s sound sure can penetrate the interior.
