First made available to the public in 1972, the Honda Civic started out as a subcompact car. Later versions from the year 2000 to the present have changed to a larger, compact car.
From the first generation to the present Tenth generation, the Honda Civic became a favorite among car enthusiasts due to their noteworthy 4-cylinder engines. Especially with the B16A which is popular here in the Philippines because of the Honda Civic SiR and the legendary K-series which graced the 2001-2006 Honda Civic Type R and the Honda Integra Type R.
In the current generation, the Honda Civic is powered by a 1.8 liter inline-4 which makes up to 139 horsepower and 174 Nm of torque or a 1.5 liter turbocharged inline-4 rated at 171 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels by either a CVT transmission or a 6-speed manual in some foreign versions.
Inside, the Civic’s five passengers are kept safe by front passenger and driver airbags, ABS and EBD, child safety locks and crash sensors. Earlier versions might have less in terms of driver-assist technologies but even a Civic from the 2000’s era is rated highly in crash tests.
In terms of competition, the Honda Civic has the Mazda 3, the Hyundai Elantra, the Chevrolet Cruze, and the Ford Focus
For variants here in the Philippines, Honda Civic has:
- Honda Civic 1.8 S CVT
- Honda Civic 1.8 E CVT
- Honda Civic RS Turbo CVT
