There are some reasons why a used Honda Civic would be a good purchase. We have listed those below. Also if you want, you can also read a short overview of the Honda Civic and why it remains one of the most popular vehicles in the Philippines today!
First things first, the Honda Civic are very low cost. It is low cost to purchase as evident from the summary of prices listed above especially used units from the 2015 model year below. They are very easy to maintain and are somewhat mechanically simpler than other vehicles from the same market segment.
Another reason is that for some reason, 2nd hand Honda Civic retain their market value rather well. There are cases especially with the Honda Civic SiR when they retain more than 50% of their purchase value even if they’re more than a decade old as this specific kind of Civic is a favorite among amateur racers and car enthusiasts here in the Philippines. This is even evident to a greater degree with rarer, high-performance Civics like the Ek9 Type R versions.
The third reason is that there is a large supply of the Civic from the dealership of Honda Philippines nationwide. And as you may already know, if the supply is high, prices are kept low.
For the same reason, spare parts and after-market upgrades are affordable and easy to find because of the Civic’s popularity. This makes tuning the Honda Civic into a high-performance vehicle easier and much more affordable.
Fourth, most of these vehicles are economical to run and has decent cargo and passenger space. They can perform admirably as a family vehicle especially if you live in the city.
And lastly, they are very reliable vehicles regardless of the kind of engine it has. As long as it’s a Honda engine, it’s guaranteed, with regular maintenance that a Civic will last for years and years.
First made available to the public in 1972, the Honda Civic started out as a subcompact car. Later versions from the year 2000 to the present have changed to a larger, compact car.
From the first generation to the present Tenth generation, the Honda Civic became a favorite among car enthusiasts due to their noteworthy 4-cylinder engines. Especially with the B16A which is popular here in the Philippines because of the Honda Civic SiR and the legendary K-series which graced the 2001-2006 Honda Civic Type R and the Honda Integra Type R.
In the current generation, the Honda Civic is powered by a 1.8 liter inline-4 which makes up to 139 horsepower and 174 Nm of torque or a 1.5 liter turbocharged inline-4 rated at 171 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels by either a CVT transmission or a 6-speed manual in some foreign versions.
Inside, the Civic’s five passengers are kept safe by front passenger and driver airbags, ABS and EBD, child safety locks and crash sensors. Earlier versions might have less in terms of driver-assist technologies but even a Civic from the 2000’s era is rated highly in crash tests.
In terms of competition, the Honda Civic has the Mazda 3, the Hyundai Elantra, the Chevrolet Cruze, and the Ford Focus
