Isuzu Alterra Overview

Isuzu engineers made the Alterra with a distinct exterior that possesses symmetrical U-shaped panoramic line features, most prominent when viewed directly, either the front or rear part of the vehicle. Isuzu billed it as "mono form," the outcome is clean but subtly aggressive. Its features include 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 245/70 R16 tires, over fender-matching side step boards, LED-type turn signals within the side mirror housings, large upscale crystal headlamps with foglamps, a rear door integrated spoiler, color-keyed roof rails, as well as a chrome tailpipe that adds to the uniqueness of the car. The Isuzu Alterra's powertrain is a diesel-powered, 16-valve 3-L 4JJ-1 I-TEO engine, generating 144 hp and 274 Nm of torque. Launch

With the creation of Alterra, the Isuzu Philippines Corporation changes the familiar perspective of motorists towards SUVs. Comfortable and luxurious but brutishly hardworking, the 4x2 Isuzu Alterra provides all the beneficial traits that a versatile SUV with multi-purpose vehicle features as well as the amenities offered by a luxury sedan.

Although the Isuzu Alterra may not attract everyone, back then, it might be one of the most sought family-oriented SUVs in this particular segment. Currently, the Alterra is marketed as the mu-X in the Philippine automotive market.

Exterior

The Isuzu Alterra's design is direct and a no-nonsense one. To break up the bulk, its greenhouse arches down at the rear. The Isuzu Alterra is 5 meters long, making its size more significant than those of its competitors. Different from most SUVs in its class, it doesn't pretend to be an off-roader. It has small, road-biased tires and is low to the ground.

Interior

The Isuzu Alterra comes with stitched leather and padded vinyl everywhere. Instead of car-like seats, it rather looks like some plump easy chairs. Also, the Isuzu Alterra's wheelbase measures 3,050 mm, offers spacious legroom allowing the passengers to stretch out wide.

In the past, funky door-mounted rear cup-holders are a cool blast, while a large loading bay outback is available when the third row is cramped, low to the floor, and fold up. Besides, the cabin is wrapped in appealing black contrast-stitched leather.

Technology & Safety Features

The Isuzu Alterra has an optional Garmin navigation, Kenwood touchscreen system with Bluetooth, a backing-up camera, and rear video screens.

It has a decent quality sound system, audio output that can be split front and rear, providing the driver to use the radio while the passengers at the back watch a movie.

The Isuzu Alterra safety features include dual front airbags, along with gravity sensors, and ABS with the electronic brake-force distribution. A back-up sensor offers smooth movement during long backing maneuvers and parallel parking. For security purposes, the spare tires are provided with a lock. Furthermore, the vehicle is also equipped with the SUV's keyless entry that comes with an anti-theft immobilizer system.

Platform & Chassis

The Isuzu Alterra's suspension setup features an independent layout complemented by rear leaf springs. Nevertheless, these leaf springs carry the FlexRide MOVE (Mobility On Versatile Equilibrium) setup that yields a new meaning in terms of ride comfort on leaf-sprung cars.

The Isuzu Alterra is equipped with Independent Double Wishbone with Stabilizer Bar and Torsion Bar Springs at the front suspension and a FlexRide MOVE Suspension, Semi-Elliptical Leaf Springs with Telescopic Shock Absorber for the rear setup.  It is provided with a ventilated disc brake at the front and drum brakes at the rear. It also has a Rack and Pinion, Collapsible Steering Column with black leather material steering wheels.
