Sedans are defined as a three-box configured vehicle which comes with a closed body, i.e. a fixed metal roof. Three-box means that there are separate compartments: the engine, the passenger, and the closed trunk located outside.
The aforementioned characteristics were initially exhibited by the 1911 Speedwell, which was technically the first-ever sedan.
Currently, sedans comprise the bulk of vehicles being operated here in the Philippines. For the rest of the world, however, this type of vehicle is seeing a bit of a decline.
Regardless, sedans are still popular due to their affordability and practicality. They aren’t as large and unwieldy as SUVs and some crossovers, and of course, most sedans have better power-to-weight ratios compared to other larger vehicles.
