The first-generation Volvo XC60 was introduced to the Philippine automotive market in 2009. A decade later, the second-generation refreshed version of the model was released in October 2019 together with a plug-in hybrid variant which is the first of its kind in the country at the time of its launch.
The Volvo XC60 follows the general aesthetic of the XC90 model with its uncluttered lines and dynamic proportions. It keeps the classic Swedish style of clean lines and light curves, exhibiting a more premium design language. The crossover’s minimalist look is balanced by a deeply sculpted front fascia and rear flanked by a full-LED lighting system that adds to the vehicle’s personality. The base D4 variant rides on 17-inch alloy wheels while the hybrid T8 variant comes with 19-inch alloys as standard.
Extending to the interior is Volvo’s trademark Scandinavian design at its purest. It boasts of an effortless blend of form and function with a clean, minimalist layout that embodies superior luxury. Seating areas are thoughtfully designed to maximize the legroom and storage areas, effectively combining space with versatility.
As expected from the Swedish brand, the cabin’s details are crafted with the finest materials. Inscription trim includes decor in Driftwood – a unique wood treatment which is also a nod to Volvo’s Swedish heritage. Seats are wrapped in leather upholstery with power adjustability.
The Volvo XC60 D4 variant is equipped with a 7-inch Volvo Sensus Infotainment System, which allows for a more personalized entertainment deck. Connectivity is enabled through auxiliary, USB ports, and Bluetooth. Meanwhile, the T8 hubrid variant is decked with a 9-inch highly responsive Volvo Sensus touchscreen in the brand’s signature portrait format. It comes with an advanced voice control function that can activate climate control, navigation, media, and mobile phone functions. Audio comes out of a Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
Volvo is known to be a brand that puts emphasis on safety. It comes with a slew of protection features such as panic alarm, Anti-lock Braking System with hydraulic brake assist, ready alert brakes, roll stability control, lane departure warning system, Blind-Spot Detection System, front and rear parking sensors, and keyless entry as standard.
The Volvo XC60 T8 hybrid model comes with additional features that includes a City Safety system. It spots potential danger and helps avoid it using radar and camera technology. The system also includes Steering Support and Run-off road Mitigation which both help avoid accidents or mitigate collisions.
The 5-door, 5-seater crossover is equipped with double wishbone front suspension and integral-link rear suspension. Volvo uses strong, lightweight materials that provide agile handling and responsive steering for added safety. Stopping power comes from disc brakes all around.
Powering the Volvo XC60 D4 AWD AT is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 181 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed Geartronic transmission that can be manually shifted through paddle shifters. Power is sent exclusively to the front wheels.
Meanwhile, the Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-in Hybrid comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged & supercharged inline-4 gasoline engine paired to an electric motor. It has a total system output of 407 hp and 640 Nm of torque with power sent to all wheels.
The Volvo XC60 comes with five drive modes that deliver different settings for the automatic gearbox, steering, brakes, stability control system, and engine Start/Stop function. The modes are Comfort, Dynamic, Eco, Off-road, and an Individual mode which allows the driver to create their own preferred settings.
