In 1993, the first-generation Lexus GS was made available in the US, Europe, and several countries in Asia. Its exterior was designed by Italdesign Giugiaro and was powered by an inline-six engine. The second generation was released in 1997 built with a new platform and runs using a V8 engine.
In 2006, a V6, V8, and a hybrid variant were introduced as a third generation. In 2011, the fourth-generation Lexus GS was unveiled at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance.
In 2015, as an addition to the growing demand for luxury sedans in the local market, Lexus Philippines launched the Lexus GS F.
The Lexus GS 450h and the Lexus GS 350 F share the same dimension of 4,880mm long, 1,840mm wide, and 1,455mm tall. The Lexus is slightly bulkier with a length of 4,915mm, a width of 1,845mm, and 1,440mm tall.
Standard on the front of all Lexus GS variants are the company’s signature spindle grille with chrome highlights, high beam LED adaptive headlights, LED daytime running lights, and LED fog lamps. Its body is sculpted with the perfect balance of line and curves made even more sophisticated with a powered tilt and slide moonroof. The back features a contemporary styled bumped with LED taillights, rear spoiler, and a dual or quad tailpipe diffuser depending on the variant. A set of sturdy 18-inch to 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels supports its elegant body.
The cabin of the Lexus GS is classy and roomy. The trim of its interior varies from wood, aluminum, and carbon cloth depending on the model. Highlights include the lush leather seats, telescopic steering wheel that comes in wood with leather or the Lexus F, rear seat armrest with audio and air conditioner control, and two to three automatic aircon systems with auto circulation.
Technology & Safety Features
A 12.3-inch high-resolution display provides important information while you drive. The Lexus GS F and the Lexus GS 350 F is equipped with an eight-inch infotainment system while the Lexus GS 450h comes with 4.2-inch.
Standards are the generous amount of SRS airbags, hill start assist, anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic parking brake, vehicle stability control, child lock protection, sensors for reverse clearance, and vehicle dynamics integrated management.
Platform & Chassis
The Lexus GS is fitted with a Double Wishbone suspension at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. Braking power is provided by discs at the front and rear. The Lexus GS F is upgraded with Brembo disc brakes.
Engine & Drivetrain
The Lexus GS 450h runs using a V6 24-Valve DOHC engine with a CVT transmission that can produce 288 horsepower. It is mated with a motor-generator that promises a horsepower of 197.
The Lexus GS 350 F Sport is powered by a V6 24-Valve DOHC engine matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It can produce 311 horsepower with 380 Newton meters.
Finally, the Lexus GS F is fitted with a V8 32-Valve Dual VVT engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is guaranteed to emit 471 horsepower with 530 Newton meters.
