The compact multi-purpose vehicle from BAIC is one of the competitively priced MPVs in the local market. The BAIC M20 is marketed as an entry-level MPV but packed with features that are usually present in higher-end vehicles. The BAIC M20 is a perfect car for car buyers that are driven by practicality and budget.
BAIC M20 was released in 2017. It is the new player in the Philippine market’s MPV segment. Even with the tight competition in the MPV market, the Chinese carmaker makes sure the vehicle can keep up with its competitors. They created a car with balanced features, can fulfill different needs, affordable and, at price points, and that is the BAIC M20.
The BAIC M20 has a height of 1783 mm, length of 4440 mm, and width of 1700mm. It’s no wonder why the Chinese MPV looks sizable and taller compared to other multi-purpose vehicles like Honda Mobilio and Toyota Avanza.
The front fascia of the BAIC M20 features a matte-chrome honeycomb grille along with projector-type headlights on both ends. There are also silver trim borders accentuating the fog lamps surrounding the extra air vent.
The vehicle's side profile comes with lines that provide the exterior with an edgier and sharper outlook complementing the window glass's black lining. The rear window wiper, roof rail, and power antenna are also present in the vehicle's exterior.
BAIC provided the M20 with a generous cabin interior that can accommodate seven to eight occupants along with a decent cargo space – making it an ideal family vehicle for family getaways. It can also be used as a business vehicle to transport goods. Additional cargo space is provided by folding the rear seats.
The cabin also comes with several storage spaces for lamps, bottles, and cups, making it an ideal vehicle for long rides. Accessory power outlets, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and low fuel warning lights are also available inside. The rear seats also adjustable and comes with a headrest.
The tech features of the BAIC M20 varies depending on the variant. The Ultra-Luxury variant gets the advantage of having second-row captain chairs, offering a lot more seating space. In terms of entertainment, the Chinese MPV is equipped with a touchscreen display integrated with CD and DVD player, 2DIN audio, USB and AUX input, FM/AM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and Voice control. All the features are connected to the speakers on the front and rear.
Safety is not compromised in the BAIC M20 because it is equipped with standard safety features including passenger and driver airbags, security alarm system, electronic door locks, keyless entry, seat belt warning, parking sensors, front and side-impact beams, crash sensor, height-adjustable front seat belts, and crash sensors.
BAIC M20 is a 5-door compact MPV that can accommodate seven to eight occupants. The Chinese MPV has a length of 4440 mm, a width of 1700 mm, a wheelbase of 2790 mm, and a ground clearance of 145 mm, which is why the vehicle has a very spacious cabin.
Both the Comfort and Ultra-Luxury variants are equipped with MacPherson independent suspension at the front, but the vehicles have different rear suspension setup. The Comfort comes with leaf spring suspension while the Ultra-Luxury got a five-link spiral spring system.
Disc and drum brakes handle the front and rear brakes of the BAIC M20.
The 1498 cc 1.5L gasoline engine that features dual-VVT is the heart of this Chinese MPV. The Euro-4 compliant powerplant generates 114 horsepower and 150 Newton-meter of torque. The power produced is delivered to the rear wheels via the five-speed manual transmission.
Performance-wise, the BAIC M20 is a very dependable vehicle. The drive-by-wire system developed by the Chinese carmaker is employed in this vehicle. The belt-driven air-con compressor engages and disengages efficiently - allowing maximum torque whenever needed.
