BAIC’s offering in the midsize MPV segment is the M60, which came a little late on the local MPV scene, but with the looks and features of this vehicle, it will surely make waves. Aside from the eye-catching exterior and massive front grille, BAIC M60 comes with enough cabin space and loaded with tech features that will make any car buyers consider buying it despite coming from a not so famous brand.
In the Philippines, the BAIC offers the M60 in two variants. The first one is the Standard 1.5L CVT variant worth Php 998,000 and the Luxury 1.5L CVT with a price tag of Php 1,068,000.
The BAIC M60 features a very muscular exterior feature with a chromed-trim Robust front grille similar to that of Lexus, which takes almost the entire front bumper. The upswept LED headlights, daytime running light, and front fog lights flank the huge front grille. The hood has a double crease that gives a more modern appeal.
The vehicle's side profile has matte black body cladding and aerodynamic creases wrapping around the fender and lower part of the Chinese MPV. The rear part features the same curvy style found on the midsize SUV and some other features, including the upswept tail lights, top rear spoiler with stop lamp, rear bumper guard. The vehicle also features decorative roof rails that add a sporty SUV vibe in the overall exterior design.
The cabin of the BAIC M60 Luxury 1.5L CVT model features a spacious cabin with ample headroom, shoulder room, and knee room. It also comes with a power-adjustable driver seat in the front row, captain chairs in the second row, and fold and tumble seats in the third row. All these seats are covered in microfiber leather. There is also the presence of leather trims in the interior that add plush feel in the cabin.
The front part of the cabin comes with a modern and clean dashboard equipped with an intelligent digital instrument cluster measuring 12 inches. It serves as the multi-functional steering wheel's background.
Technology & Safety Features
BAIC M60 is equipped with a tablet-like touchscreen mounted above the AC vents. The 9-inch LCD screen provides and displays every entertainment needs of the passenger. It also has USB and Bluetooth connectivity. Sound is transmitted via six all-around speakers. The rear-view mirror of the M60 is one of its unique features because it is a smart touch screen. It sports a rear-cam, dash-cam, a calendar, and a clock. It even has a chat service app.
The driver gets to sit on a 6-way power-adjustable seat with easy access to the cruise controls and music integrated on the steering wheel.
In terms of safety, the BAIC M60 is equipped with a driver, front side, and front passenger airbags, push start button, keyless entry, engine electronic anti-theft, backup sensor, and reverse camera.
Platform & Chassis
BAIC M60 is a seven-seater midsize MPV from the Chinese brand. It has a length of 4800 mm, a width of 1824 mm, a height of 1725, a wheelbase of 2760 mm, and a ground clearance of 161. The Chinese MPV rides on the set of 17-inch wheels
This vehicle is equipped with MacPherson independent coil spring for the front suspension and semi-independent torsion beam for the rear. This setup gives the driver and passenger riding comfort.
In terms of braking, the BAIC M60 comes with ventilated discs for both the front and rear brakes. For enhanced stopping power, this vehicle is also employed with an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake distribution.
Engine & Drivetrain
BAIC M60 is made and assembled in China. The Chinese carmaker fitted its MPV with the same engine equipped in the BJ20. Under the hood of the BAIC M60 lies a 1498 cc 1.5-Liter Turbocharged gasoline engine that creates 147 horsepower and 210 Newton-meter of torque. It comes with a front-engine front-wheel-drive drivetrain that is pared to a continuously variable transmission.
The Chinese MPV can reach a top speed of 170 kilometers per hour and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 14 seconds. The fuel capacity of the vehicle's Euro 5 compliant powerplant is 52 liters.
