The Jaguar I-Pace was first unveiled in the Philippines in 2018. Coventry Motors released the new generation model in July 7, 2020 in a virtual launch.
The I-Pace takes design cues from other models in Jaguar’s current line-up with its design primarily inspired by the Jaguar C-X75. It bears the same futuristic and modern vibe, making it stand out among other pure electric vehicles in the market. Staying true to the British brand’s design philosophy, the I-Pace boasts of a sleek exterior profile highlighted by character lines that make it look athletic. Its contours are strategically positioned for optimal aerodynamics.
Up front is the signature grille with Active Vanes that automatically open and close should the electric motor need cooling. It flows seamlessly through the dramatic bonnet scoop towards the Jaguar signature rear haunches. Completing the look are slim futuristic LED headlights, sleek LED taillights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Stepping into the cabin of the I-Pace is very much like its Jaguar siblings, fitted and finished in premium materials that showcase the brand’s orientation towards refined craftsmanship for the modern market. It boasts of the perfect blend of aesthetically compelling trims with functionality in the form of generous amounts of interior space and storage.
The driver-oriented cockpit features sports car focus with intuitive and easy to reach controls, as well as a center console that gives convenient access to drive modes and safety features. Form-fitting sports seats and most of the interior are wrapped in premium textile Kvadrat which is one of the finishes that is unique to the I-Pace.
The Jaguar I-Pace is equipped with a 10-inch Touch Pro Duo infotainment system integrated into the dashboard. It is the first nameplate in the British brand’s lineup that received this modern package. In addition, it comes with a high-definition Interactive Driver Display which provides access to Jaguar’s powerful navigation system with range-maximizing route recommendations.
Among the extensive list of safety features furnished in the pure EV crossover is the thermal management system which ensures that the battery is optimized for the day ahead. The battery and cabin temperature can be pre-conditioned prior to the drive via the infotainment touchscreen controls.
Software updates are also a breeze through Jaguar’s online-based system. This enables users to download the latest version of telematics and battery energy control software in the comforts of their own home.
The pure electric vehicle has a unique chassis setup. Its body is built with a combination of alloy and steel to ensure durability and safety without compromising on weigh. Batteries are located on the flooring, which allows distribution of weight on a balanced 50/50 split between the front and rear axles. This gives the crossover a sports car-like balance and handling. In terms of stopping, there are two settings for regenerative braking. The higher-level setting allows seamless one-pedal driving.
Powering the Jaguar I-Pace are two electric motors engineered by the British brand themselves. The 90 kWh lithium-ion battery pack produces an impressive 394 hp and 694 Nm torque which allows the electric crossover to accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Using a quick charger, replenishing the battery to 80% takes only 40 minutes.
