Since its introduction in 1998, the compact SUV from Honda has captured the hearts of Filipinos. Now at its fifth generation, the CR-V in the Philippines is still one of the best sellers of the Japanese carmaker.
The Honda CR-V 2010 belongs to the third generation which was released in the local market in 2007. The 3rd-gen Honda CR-V came with several updates in terms of exterior design which brought mixed reactions to local car enthusiasts.
If you are planning to buy a Honda CR-V, keep on reading to learn more about this popular compact crossover.
With the shorter wheelbase along with the swooping windows and the creased doors, the sporty-looking car quickly became a favorite small SUV of many Filipino car buyers. To evoke the Ssangyong Stavic style, the rear section was improved with the style of the flip-door but still retains the design of the taillights.
However, many people opposed the muzzle design with the two-tier grille section and elongated lower section. A Modulo body kit option was interesting to many customers, but it was unclear about the inventory status of the product.
The improvement after the second generation CR-V by expanding interior space and upgrading interior quality was the main reason why this Honda CR-V model sold well. Customer complaints about little head or legroom or the narrow walking area between the front seats will be highly unlikely.
China feels plastic had been replaced by soft plastic. Another good thing from Honda is that the position of the controls and the fuel consumption measure remained the same.
Two new engine options were introduced for this Honda CR-V 2010.
Those who want the lower option can choose from a 1,997cc R20A gasoline engine that has 150hp at 4,200rpm and 197Nm at 4,200rpm. Meanwhile, the K24Z 2,354cc with 170hp at 5,800rpm and 231Nm at 4,200rpm is the more suitable choice for those looking for a high-end engine.
If there was a combination of engine and tranny to choose from, it was the 2.0S MT with 6 speeds. Why?
The highest speed the engine can reach is 6,800 rpm on the highway. At the same time, fuel efficiency is more easily achieved with more gears. The 2.4 engine provides extra power to overtake but if you need to accelerate, you will need a lot of foot force on the pedal.
Driving dynamics are very safe and predictable. Designers opted to omit the off-road functionality because they wanted the crossover to be more like a car than an SUV.
With minimal body roll in twisted ways, Steering is balanced but three-digit territory still generates noise.
According to Philkotse.com and some other online automotive classifieds websites in the Philippines, a 3rd-gen CR-V or 2010 Honda CR-V are available for sale from P350,000 to P600,000.
Maintenance costs is definitely not a problem as you can have your preventive maintenance schedule every 10,000kms. This normally means one or two visits to the dealer. Plus, parts are affordable and available.
