Initially, the Land Rover Discovery Vision concept was unveiled at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. It was the replacement for the premium British car manufacturer’s other model, the Land Rover Freelander. The first-generation Land Rover Discovery utilized a steel monocoque with aluminum wings, roof, bonnet, and tailgate. It was powered by a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter Ford EcoBoost engine matched with either a nine-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
The second-generation Land Rover Discovery Sport was introduced in 2019. In December of the same year, it was launched in the Philippines through Coventry Motors, the local distributor of Land Rover vehicles.
The new Land Rover Discovery Sport measures 4,597mm long, 2,173mm wide, and 1,727mm tall with a ground clearance of 212mm. Highlights in its gloriously mighty body include a pair of full LED headlamps with split-pattern LED daytime running lights, the British company’s signature gloss black trapezoidal grille with honeycomb mesh, fixed panoramic roof, sloping rear windshield, sleek LED tail lamps with fog lamps, solar attenuating windscreen, and fixed side steps.
Supporting the Land Rover Discovery Sport is a set of 17-inch to 21-inch wheels available in 12 designs and finishes.
The cabin of the Land Rover Discovery Sport is spacious and can accommodate seven fully grown adults. For your customization needs, Land Rover offers a wide array of rich colors for the interior. Notable features include a multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum gearshift paddles, air quality sensor, cabin air ionisation, two-zone climate control, 12 to 14-way seats with manual headrest, interactive driver display, footwell lights, and ambient lighting.
Providing infotainment inside the Land Rover Discovery Sport is a 10-inch Touch Pro system paired with a Meridian Sound system. Safety is guaranteed as it is built with a generous number of airbags, dynamic stability control, electronic traction control, lane keep assist, cruise control, speed limiter, emergency braking, global lock/unlock switch on, anti-lock braking system, and more.
The Land Rover Discovery was built based on the Jaguar Land Rover Premium Transverse Architecture platform. It is equipped with an independent suspension at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport is offered in a front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. It runs using either a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel or 2.0-liter turbocharged gas Ingenium engine mated with a manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. Horsepower ranges from 150 to 246 with 430 to 500 Newton meters.
