BMW first released the M5 worldwide in February 1985. It has since undergone aesthetic and engineering improvements to stay on top of its segment. The sixth-generation M5 arrived in Philippine shores in July 2018, officially presented by none other than Mr. Ramon Ang, Chairman of SMC Asia Car Distributors.
The M5 exudes BMW’s design philosophy of athletic elegance. It boasts of the brand’s signature aesthetic comprised of the brand's stylishly shaped, distinct silhouette and the iconic kidney grille. Sleek adaptive LED headlights add to the front fascia’s aggressive look leading up to the sides with strong character lines. The contours continue to the lightweight roof made of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic for functional aesthetics. At the rear is a discreet M rear spoiler with chrome trims complete the sporty yet sophisticated style of the M5. It rides on 19-inch light-alloy wheels.
As expected from the German brand, the M5’s cabin boasts of a first-class cabin experience above regular series executive sedans in the lineup. Inside is a plethora of high-grade materials starting with the seats clad in Merino leather upholstery with the signature M badge on the headrests. They come fully, electrically adjustable for the convenience of all passengers.
The details create an entirely elevated ambiance, including the straightforward and precise controls for the driver and the passengers.
The BMW M5 sets new standards in terms of connectivity and driver assistance through its latest technological updates. In the driver-oriented cockpit is the BMW fully-colored Head-Up Display with M-specific functions. The system allows the driver to record all the information they need in matter of seconds, including drive modes, shifts, navigation, and speed displays.
Its multifunctional instrument cluster not only serves as the entertainment system, but also contains the Driving Assistance Plus system. This includes the BMW Personal CoPilot which enables automatic cruising and parking. The entertainment system, on the other, comes with the BMW ConnectedDrive which allows a more convenient way of connecting smartphones to the vehicle, navigation, and other concierge-type of services.
The 4-door sports sedan is equipped with a fundamentally revised M5 suspension built specifically for the nameplate. Stopping power comes from M Carbon ceramic brakes that are visible from outside the car. These innovations are functionally aligned to the engine’s specifications to produce the best possible race performance.
Powering the BMW M5 is a 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder gasoline engine mated to a 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. It produces an astounding 600 hp and 750 Nm of torque. The M xDrive with Active technology gives the driver the flexibility to choose among 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD drive, depending on the road conditions. This ensures that the vehicle produces maximum traction and dynamic performance in city driving or on the race track.
