Toyota celebrated the 60th anniversary of Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. (TMT) with the unveiling of the Hilux Revo BEV (battery electric vehicle).
Toyota Hilux Revo BEV concept
The Toyota Hilux Revo BEV is an all-electric concept pickup truck that conforms to the industry shift to favoring electric vehicles (EVs). It is said to be a vehicle that aims to support carbon neutrality, a common goal shared by automakers for the upcoming years.
Not a lot of details have been shared about the Hilux Revo BEV. Considering that it is a pickup truck, specifications such as the towing and payload capacities will be crucial for prospective buyers in this market. All Toyota revealed at the anniversary celebration event are design cues including the grille-less front fascia, toned-down side profiles, and multi-spoke alloys.
Toyota is moving at its own pace when it comes to electrification. According to the automaker, the future shouldn’t be all about electric cars so other powertrain options are being explored. That said, the Toyota Hilux could still use be powered by alternatives such as hydrogen if the Revo BEV stays as a concept.
Toyota President Akio Toyoda presented the Hilux Revo BEV and IMV 0 concepts
As of this writing, Toyota has yet to confirm whether the Reno BEV concept will enter its production lines anytime soon.
In addition to the all-electric pickup concept, Toyota also showcased the IMV 0 Concept, a light commercial vehicle that looks to “enhance the quality of life for many people and provide new economic opportunities.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the all-new, IMV 0 concept and our all-new Hilux Revo BEV concept,” said Toyota Motor Corporation President Akio Toyoda.
“Between them, they represent two different ends of the automotive spectrum for different needs and different customers – one designed to support economic growth and mobility for all, and one designed to support carbon neutrality and a better environment for all,” added Toyoda.
Toyota is moving forward with people and the environment in mind
While waiting for an announcement on whether we’ll get to see the Hilux in an all-electric form, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will be giving us a taste of full electrification with the bZ4X. TMP confirmed earlier this year that the compact crossover BEV will be joining its lineup in 2023.
