Next-gen Ranger reclaims top spot in 4x4 pickup segment, Ford PH says

Ford’s pickup owns 38% market share in PH’s 4x4 truck segment.

The next-generation Ranger continues to be Ford Philippines’ top-selling vehicle as the Blue Oval brand sustained its retail performance for the first nine months of 2023 (January to September).

Ford Philippines reported that its retail sales increased by 42 percent from a year ago to 23,091 vehicles sold. The month of September has also been favorable for Ford PH as it recorded its highest monthly sales since May 2020 with 3,391 vehicles sold. The company’s sales were driven by the next-gen Ranger followed by the all-new Territory and Everest. 

The next-gen Ranger remained Ford PH’s top-selling vehicle with sales growing by 22 percent from a year ago to 9,113 vehicles sold. But more importantly, Ford PH said that the new Ranger has reclaimed its leadership in the country’s 4x4 pickup truck segment.

The Ranger got back on top of the 4x4 truck class by registering 4,396 units sold over the last nine months of the year. The said sales numbers allowed the next-gen Ford Ranger to own 38 percent market share in the 4x4 pickup truck segment.  

The demand for the all-new Ford Territory is still evident in the Philippines as it maintained its momentum in the compact crossover segment with a market share of 46 percent. Ford PH added that sales for the Territory grew by eight percent to 6,955 units sold.

The next-gen Ford Everest also flexed its muscle as it made its contribution to sustaining the Blue Oval brand’s sales performance. Ford PH said that the all-new Everest clinched the title of being the second best-selling midsize SUV in the market with 6,693 vehicles sold. The said number translates to a notable 255 percent increase from the previous year. 

Ford PH also shared that in September 2023, the Everest sold 1,254 units, emerging as the top-selling midsize SUV in the country during the said month.

Ford PH managing director Mike Breen said that the brand’s sales performance shows the company’s commitment to “continue bringing our segment-leading vehicles and after-sales offerings to our customers.” 

“We thank our growing community of customers, enthusiasts, and fans for their support to the Ford brand and our dealers for their solid partnership to improve the Ford ownership experience,” Breen added.

Ford Ranger

The 2023 Ford Ranger is a 4x4 or 4x2 pickup truck. It is the latest version of the said model, and as of its launch in the Philippine market, it has a total of eight different variants.

These are the top-spec Wildtrak 4x4, Wildtrak 4x2, Sport 4x4, Sport 4x2, XLT 4x2, XLS 4x2 AT, XLS 4x2 MT, and the entry-level XL 4x4. As of 2023, prices for these trims ranges from php 1,213,000 to Php 1,910,000.

Under the hood of the new Ranger are two-different diesel mills. For the Wildtrak 4x4, it uses a 2.0-liter biturbo that can churn out 210 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. It is also the sole trim that uses a 10-speed automatic tranny.

The rest of the all-new Ranger then gets a 2.0-liter turbodiesel that can produce up to 170 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque. Only the XLS 4x2 and the XL 4x4 may come with a six-speed manual. The other non-biturbo trims then use a six-speed automatic.

Size-wise, the all-new 2023 Ranger is 5,370mm long, 1,918mm wide, and 1,884mm in height. They also offer a wheelbase length of 3,270mm, and a ground clearance of 235mm.

Locally, the 2023 Ford Ranger faces the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi Strada, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, etc.
