You can soon hit that renegade on the go.

Today’s automobiles are becoming more innovative and smarter with the introduction of new in-car technologies. Over at Mercedes-Benz, the German automaker has developed a new compatibility layer that allows the installation of third-party apps such as TikTok and Zoom.

This technology will be made available first in the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class. While the automaker has yet to fully reveal the luxury vehicle, it did show some photos of the interior, coming with huge screens that will display the in-car apps.

TikTokers don’t need to use their phones to upload a new video on the app. They can use the vehicle’s camera to record themselves, given that the shifter is engaged to park. Considering the number of users the app has, the introduction of in-car TikTok should spark interest among younger car buyers.

As mentioned earlier, Zoom is also part of the package. With the widespread mobile office setups since 2020, this addition will be able to adapt to the ever-changing demands. Mercedes-Benz said that image transmission will not be activated while driving to avoid driver distraction.

Other in-car apps that will be available in the upcoming E-Class are Angry Birds, Webex by Cisco, and Vivaldi.

In the future, we could see the automaker introduce a next-generation navigation technology as it partnered with Google. Not only will the app display directions but also serve as the basis for assisted driving features such as automatic speed adjustments.

This is the approach Mercedes-Benz is taking despite fellow German automaker BMW aiming to reduce driver distraction caused by large infotainment screens. In fact, BMW recently unveiled its upcoming head-up display that is simpler and smaller in the belief that it will be safer for the passengers.
