2024 Toyota Hilux gets updated front end, mild-hybrid diesel

While the internet is busy with Lewis Hamilton moving to the Scuderia Ferrari F1 team, Toyota revealed the updated 2024 Hilux featuring a new front end along with the integration of a mild-hybrid diesel powertrain.

The Japanese automaker said that the updated 2024 Toyota Hilux brings a new sense of rugged style with a refreshed front end. The facelifted Toyota Hilux looks sleeker and less muscular as compared to its old front design. 

The new Hilux, which was revealed in Australia, also veers away from the current macho-looking design of its rivals such as the next-generation Mitsubishi Triton, Ford Ranger, and Isuzu D-Max, among others. Of note, Toyota did not release photos of the higher-spec trims such as the Hilux Rogue (which is similar to the Conquest trim) and the GR Sport. The said trims could have a more rugged and commanding overall design.  

The Hilux’s new face is fitted with a new honeycomb grille finished in black which complements well to the revised dark-tinted LED headlight cluster that looks more striking than the old version. The front bumper is also tweaked and now has a more assertive finish, which is further highlighted by the gloss black fog light housing, and the flat silver faux skid plate.

Facelifted 2024 Toyota Hilux revealed in Australia

Turning to the side, the 2024 Toyota Hilux gets black door handles, black side mirrors, and a black sports bar on the bed.  

There are no rear shots released as of this writing but, Toyota Australia shared that the 2024 Hilux comes with four rear parking sensors as well as two front sensors to help make navigating tight spaces easier.  

The same story goes when it comes to the interior as no official photos are shared by the car brand. This suggests that there could be significant changes applied to the new Hilux cabin. However, Toyota Australia said that the facelifted pickup truck has a wireless charging pad and two rear USB-C ports next to the air-conditioning vents.  

The 2024 Toyota Hilux is equipped with a 48-volt motor that’s added to the truck’s 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel. But, Toyota has yet to release the official combined power output with the addition of the 48V motor. To put things in perspective, the current 2.8-liter turbodiesel fitted on the Philippine-spec Toyota Hilux Conquest delivers 201 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. 

Toyota did say that the 48V motor helps improve engine smoothness and fuel economy of the 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine by approximately six to 10 percent. 

The 48-volt system comprises a motor generator, 48-volt battery and DC/DC converter which enables a stop/start system as well as enhancing driveability and fuel efficiency while reducing noise, vibration, and harshness.

The updated 2024 Toyota Hilux will arrive in Australian showrooms in March this year.
