It traveled from the North Pole to the South Pole.

The Nissan Ariya electric vehicle (EV) has conquered the North and South Pole by completing over 30,000 kilometers of drive. The all-electric Ariya crossover was piloted by husband and wife adventure duo Chris and Julie Ramsey.

The Ramsey adventure duo took 10 months to complete the journey. The 30,000 km drive started on the frozen Arctic Sea at the 1823 Magnetic North Pole to the South Pole in Antarctica. Nissan said that Chris and Julie Ramsey drove the Ariya EV through varied terrains and conditions of North, Central, and South America.

The duo then drove the Nissan Ariya EV on the most remote continent on the planet to reach the South Pole. As such, the Japanese car brand is proud to say that this is the first time any car has completed such a journey.

“I can’t believe we’re at the South Pole. After so many years of planning, it doesn’t feel real. I’ve always had full confidence in the amazing capabilities of electric vehicles, and I knew our Nissan Ariya would tackle everything thrown at it,” said Chris.

“This has been an incredible journey, with the people we’ve met, the friends we’ve made and the support we’ve received. Pole to Pole started out as just Chris and I, but the expedition team is now made of up of thousands of kind, forward-thinking people,” shared Julie.

The Nissan Ariya that the husband and wife adventure duo used is equipped with e-4ORCE all-wheel drive, allowing them to drive on almost any terrain. The Ariya that traveled from North to South poles was close to stock modification but a couple of tweaks were integrated by polar mobility specialists Arctic Trucks.

The Ariya EV that Chris and Julie drove comes with additional ground clearance via a new suspension system. The added ride height combined with widened wheel arches allowed Arctic Trucks to put a set of 39-inch BF Goodrich tires.

The stock electric motor and the 87 kWh battery for the Pole to Pole Ariya were kept in their stock forms. Specifically, it can still produce up to 389 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque just like the Ariya B9 4ORCE AWD variant. It also has a stock range of up to 610 km while fast charging offers up to 375 km in just 30 minutes.

The Nissan Ariya EV that traveled from pole to pole is also equipped with a lightweight turbine and solar panels, which are components that allow the vehicle’s batteries to be charged.
