Its claimed 700 km range sounds promising.

Smartphone brands tapping into the automotive market is not new. In fact, Huawei, in partnership with Chery, just unveiled a new electric vehicle (EV) codenamed EH3. It will be sold under a new brand called Luxeed, a joint venture between the two Chinese companies.

In a report by CarNewsChina, Huawei Chief Executive Officer Richard Yu shared a picture of the new sedan EV’s exterior styling. The Luxeed EH3 comes with a sleek design, red Brembo brakes, and retractable door handles.

The EV also has a Lidar sensor on top of the roof matched with 11 high-definition (HD) cameras, three millimeter-way radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars. Those are said to enable the Huawei ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) 2.0, providing functions such as NCA (Navigation Cruise Assist) that allow the car to drive on its own.

Underpinned by the EV-dedicated E0X platform from Chery, the EH3 uses batteries made by Chinese company CATL. This provides the EH3 with a claimed range of up to 700 km. The EV also has 800V charging, air suspension, and dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD).

Expected to debut in Q3 2023, the Luxeed EH3 will reportedly start at 200,000 yuan (around Php 1.564 million).

“At the just-concluded HDC 2023, HarmonyOS 4 made its grand debut. Here is another big news to share with you. The first pure electric coupe of Huawei’s smart car business will be the first to be equipped with HarmonyOS 4,” said Yu in a Weibo post (translated from Chinese to English).

“As a new category of smart car, it adopts a subversive design language and brings a coupe experience beyond imagination. It will meet you in this quarter, so stay tuned!”

While we won’t likely see the Luxeed EH3 in the Philippine market anytime soon, Omoda, a luxury sub-brand of Chery, will hold its brand launch in Q4 2023 in the country. Although, Omoda will enter independent of Chery’s current Philippine distributor, United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI).

The brand will join the local electric car market with the Omoda 5 EV, a compact crossover with a projected range of up to 450 km.
