The tour covered a total of five Asian countries.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle (EV) has recently completed its epic 11-day journey across a total of five Asian countries. Aptly named the Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour, it covered a total of 3,197 kilometers traveling over Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

The EV started its journey back on November 20, 2023, at the newly opened Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center (HMGICS) in  Singapore. The final leg of the sojourn landed the Ioniq 5 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on November 30, 2023.

In keeping with the tour’s “Go Far With Zero Worries” theme, the vehicle made the five-country trip without any hitches. It even traveled through Cambodia and Vietnam where charging stations are scant. But even after crossing the border between the two nations, the vehicle still kept 50 percent of its battery life.

All the more impressive is the fact that the entire total journey only netted a cost of $116 for each car (around Php 6,400). This of course shows the strong cost efficiency of the vehicle. Hyundai likewise claimed that it is at least two times more cost-efficient when compared to an internal combustion (ICE) vehicle.

Of note, the Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour is comprised of five vehicles. Two were made in Indonesia, and three in Singapore. These were piloted by a mixture of local community influencers, members of the Association of Singapore, Hyundai Motor Company officials, as well as key opinion leaders from Indonesia and Thailand.

Along the way, the aforementioned participants went through exciting activities including the thrilling flag-off ceremony in Singapore, and media convoys in Malaysia and Vietnam. During its stop in Thailand, the Ioniq 5 showcased its vehicle-to-load V2L technology where it was made to power outdoor lamps, music performances, a mini cinema, and other fun activities.

With all that said, the Ioniq 5’s completion of its Asia tour might alleviate the remaining doubts some buyers have about EVs. So if you want to take the plunge into electric-powered mobility, the Philippine-spec Ioniq 5 is priced at Php 3,068,000 for the GLS Standard Range variant, and Php 3,698,000 for the top-spec GLS Long Range variant.
