Great Wall Motor (GWM) has scored an impressive five-star safety rating for the Haval Jolion Hybrid at the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
GWM Haval Jolion HEV Crash Test
This was a follow-up to the earlier crash test of the Haval Jolion with the gasoline variant, which also earned a five-star rating. It was re-tested to see whether the addition of hybrid components would compromise safety.
With a perfect score, the Jolion with the hybrid components still retains its impressive safety factor. It scored 90 percent (34.53 out of 38 points) for adult occupant protection, 84 percent (41.18 out of 49 points) for child occupant protection, 64 percent (35 out of 54 points) for vulnerable road user protection, and 92 percent (14.87 out of 16 points) for safety assist.
To test the integrity of the crossover with the hybrid components, the ANCAP conducted additional tests including front offset and oblique pole tests.

The front offset test saw marginal and adequate protection for the drivers’ chest and lower legs, respectively. A good protection score was awarded for all critical body areas of both the driver and passenger. Meanwhile, the oblique pole test showed good protection for all critical body regions.
Of note, the safety rating applies to all variants, including gasoline and hybrid versions, complete with a 2022 date stamp.
ANCAP also tested the electrified versions of the Genesis G80 and GV70 alongside the Jolion following the models' earlier crash tests in their ICE (internal combustion engine) forms only. Despite the addition of electrified components, the models still earned a five-star rating.
"With these new results, these are now over 100 battery electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and hydrogen models rated by ANCAP, which hold a five-star ANCAP safety rating - providing plenty of choice to customers across a range of vehicle brands, models, and price-points," said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer Carla Hoorweg.
The crossover earned a five-star rating
Here in the Philippines, GWM returned to the market with two crossovers including the Jolion. With a starting price of Php 998,000, the PH-spec model is available in four variants including the flagship hybrid version.
