The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has reported that top 3 stolen vehicles in the Philippines are:

The 3 above are everyday vehicles used by families across the Philippines. They are also the top favorites of car thieves in our country. If your beloved car is on the list, take some extra precautions to enhance your car safety.

Col. Edwin Butacan, PNP-HPG police community relations and public information officer as quoted as saying: “These are very saleable in the market.”. He further explained: “They (car thieves) bring the vehicles to Visayas and Mindanao, fabricate new papers, and sell them off as secondhand vehicles.”

Affordable pre-owned Fortuners allow for quick sales as the market has a big demand for these models. A stolen Fortuner is usually sold at around P700,000, about half of the price of a new one (P1.3 million), which can be a great deal for prospective purchasers (an even better deal for the car thieves). Other stolen vehicles, which cost P800,000, can being sold at around P400,000 to P500,000. Perhaps targeted cars often are not necessarily the most expensive, but those in high demand.

A coherent strategy for deterring car thefts needs to be developed. The PNP-HPG is drawing up a strategy to warm the public against used vehicles which are sold at dubiously low prices.

"The price should really send a warning already," Butacan shared.

Now that you know the most common vehicles stolen, how about the top cites where car thefts occur? According to the PNP-HPG, top 3 areas where most car thefts happen in the Philippines are:

  • Metro Manila
  • Region 3 (Central Luzon)
  • Region 4A (Calabarzon)

It’s no surprise that many car thefts occur in Metro Manila, with it being the capital region and economic center of the Philippines. Looking further, here are top 3 cites in Metro Manila where car thieves love to hang out:

  • Quezon City
  • Manila
  • Makati

The above cities are most populous places in Metro Manila. Moreover, a series of economic activies and prime business are in these cities as well. Therefore, these places make it easy for car thieves to turn the stolen vehicles around for quicker and more frequent sales.

As much as you want to avoid the aforementioned cities where car thieves love to strike, sometimes it cannot be helped, especially if you live and work in the above areas. To avoid falling victim to carnappings, it is best to always be careful and secure your parking area.

It’s time to look for extra anti-theft devices and technologies to protect your beloved cars!
