The biennial auto event is finally confirmed for a comeback.

The 2022 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) is pushing through, marking the return of one of the country’s premiere auto exhibitions. It is slated to take place from September 15 to 18 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, the same venue where this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) was held.

CAMPI PIMS FB post

CAMPI has confirmed that the 2022 Philippine International Motor Show is happening this September

This was confirmed via a Facebook post by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), which is responsible for organizing the PIMS. Unlike the annual MIAS, PIMS is staged on a biennial basis or every two years.

CAMPI is an association that represents the biggest names in the local auto industry. According to the group’s official website, participating brands under its regular membership roster include:

  • BMW
  • Foton
  • Honda
  • Isuzu
  • Kia
  • Mitsubishi
  • Nissan
  • Toyota

Associate members include Mazda Phililppines (through Berjaya Auto), Peugeot (though its new distributor Astara), Suzuki Auto Philippines, and Volkswagen (through AC Motors).

The first and second editions of PIMS were held within a year of each other in 2007 and 2008, respectively. 2018 marked the seventh edition of PIMS, the last to be held before COVID-19 struck. Concerns over rising COVID cases forced organizers to cancel what would have been the show’s eigth iteration in 2020, the first year of the pandemic.

2022 Honda BR-V

Will the all-new Honda BR-V make its Philippine debut at the event?

Following the success of this year’s MIAS which was already held on-site, CAMPI decided that PIMS should make a comeback as well. Seeing how the group’s members represent the worldwide auto industry at large to a significant degree, the upcoming edition of PIMS will likely feature vehicle technologies such as hybrid (whether standard, mild, or plug-in) and fully electric powertrains.

PIMS is also a platform for launching new models for the Philippine market. The 2016 edition served as the debut for the first-generation Honda BR-V, while the 2018 staging was where Honda Cars Philippines announced that the model will be fully assembled locally. Now that the 2022 PIMS has been confirmed, will Honda use it as a launch pad for its second-generation seven-seater MPV?
