As a facelift of the current third-generation model, it bears some styling changes. But apart from that, it also has a host of improvements ranging from its on-board tech, as well as its powerplant. Let’s go over those in detail, and see what this refreshed premium seven-seater crossover SUV has to offer for the Philippine market.

Exterior

On the outside, the 2021 Land Rover Discovery features a new LED headlamp design, combined with a new set of LED daytime running lamps. It also features a revised front bumper with new side vents. The rear of the model also bears a new gloss-black panel, and the “Discovery” lettering positioned in-between the taillamps now uses a much clearer font.

And of course, it still bears the iconic body proportions and shapes typical of Land Rovers

Of note, the L462 third-gen Discovery still uses an aluminum unibody frame typical of crossovers. Then again, the said frame still provides ample flexibility and durability, allowing the Discovery to deal with rough terrain.

The look of the Discovery is then completed with a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, which are wrapped with 255/55/R20 tires.

Interior

As pointed out earlier, the 2021 Discovery is a plush seven-seater vehicle. It features a lot of interior space, and with all seats in use, it can still offer up to 172 liters of cargo space. There’s also an abundance of USB charging ports, and all of its seats are wrapped in leather.

Speaking of the seats, each has been carefully designed to provide improved posture for its users, so long road trips aren’t an issue at all. The said seats are also very versatile as they can be folded down and adjusted to configure the car’s interior arrangement.

Tech and Safety

Another new feature for the 2021 Discovery is the addition of an 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen headunit. This unit is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. The driver is also provided with the Land Rover Interactive Driver Display, which provides navigation, high-definition digital gauge clusters, among others.

For safety, the Discovery can come with a total of eight airbags, and it also comes standard with ISOFIX child seat tethers. It is also equipped with several driver-assist technologies like torque vectoring, cornering brake control, lane keep assist, emergency braking, blind-spot assist, a 3D surround camera, cruise control, among others.

Engine

The main change for the 2021 Discovery model is the new 3.0-liter inline-6 Ingenium turbodiesel engine with a 48V mild hybrid electric vehicle technology (MHEV). At most, this engine can produce up to 249 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

As a MHEV, the Land Rover-made model can charge its batteries by way of regenerative braking. The electric component then assists the combustion engine during acceleration.

Even with a unibody chassis, the Discovery can perform well offroad

For suspensions, the 2021 Discovery comes standard with an electric air suspension system, which allows for a great deal of versatility. Also fitted on all trims is an adaptive dynamics damper, which ensures a smooth ride and greater control of the car.

Lastly, the new Discovery is also fitted with the Terrain Response Technology. This allows the driver to select a variety of driving modes that will optimize grip and power delivery in various situations like rock crawling, driving on muddy and slippery terrain, and also for general on-road driving. It also has the new Wade Mode which as the name implies, makes tackling bodies of water up to 900mm (3 feet) deep.

Pricing

For the Philippine market, the 2021 Land Rover Discovery is priced at Php 6,490,000. If you’re interested, you can view the said car at the All British Cars showroom located in Greenhills or at the Bonifacio Global City Boutique Showroom.
