This is for the Australian version.

The Toyota Corolla Cross received a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). This further confirms its potency as a model that’s good as a daily driver, and as a family car.

To further delve into this ANCAP rating, the Toyota Corolla Cross managed to get 85 percent (32.63 points out of 38) for the adult occupant protection (AOP) category. Its Child Occupant Protection (COP) meanwhile, returned a higher score of 88 percent (43.20 out of 49).

The Toyota Corolla Cross also proved to be good at protecting vulnerable road users as it also scored high in this category at 87 percent (46.98 out of 54). It also received 83 percent (13.40 out of 16) for ANCAP’s safety assist rating.

Do note that the unit that underwent ANCAP’s tests is the Toyota Corolla Cross for the Australian and New Zealand markets. So while it might look a bit similar to the Philippine-spec model, it has a slightly more comprehensive safety kit overall.

For instance, it gets a traffic sign recognition system, which isn’t present on the Philippine-spec Toyota Corolla Cross.

There’s also the fact that while our version also gets a pre-collision system, automatic high beams, lane trace assist, lane departure assist, dynamic cruise control, blind spot monitoring, it is only limited to the locally available GR-S HEV and the V HEV variants.

Contrast that to the Corolla Cross for Australia and New Zealand where the entirety of its variant lineup is equipped with the aforementioned driver-assistive safety features.

A 360-degree view camera and a parking assist system are also present on the top-spec “Atmos” Hybrid Aussie Corolla Cross but absent on the Philippine top-spec trim.

To add more to this difference in specs, the Toyota Corolla Cross for Australia and New Zealand also get a total of eight airbags as standard. Meanwhile, our version gets a total of seven.

With all that said, our version is different as it is tuned specifically to meet the rigors of Asian roads. Also, there’s the point that the government enforced automotive safety in the Philippines might not be as thorough as the Australian and New Zealand standards.
