In a traffic advisory released by NLEX Corp., the partial road closure is due to San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) construction works for the Skyway Stage 3, which will be conducted in the NLEX Balintawak area. The advisory stated that a 160-meter lane closure will be implemented at the leftmost lane of both north- and south-bound directions.

The partial road closure will be from January 17 to January 22. Of note, NLEX Corp. said that the leftmost lane of both directions will be closed at select times, which will be from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

As such, road closure will be implemented on the following dates and times:

- January 17, 10:00 p.m. to January 18, 4 a.m.

- January 18, 10:00 p.m. to January 19, 4 a.m.

Meanwhile, all toll plazas under Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and SMC will implement cashless or RFID-only payments by June 2024. The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) wants this as it aims to make traffic flow in toll exits faster and more efficient.

As previously reported, TRB executive director Alvin Carullo said that all toll exits under MPTC and SMC will be testing their respective systems or RFID scanners for cashless payments by June.

The TRB is also said to be targeting to implement full interoperability for RFID systems in Philippine expressways this year. This means that two RFIDs in the Philippines, which is Easytrip and Autosweep, will be readable on all expressways–eliminating the need to maintain sufficient balance on each of the RFIDs.
