This causes traffic delays and inconvenience to other motorists.

The North Luzon Expressways Corporation (NLEX Corp.) has observed that many motorists are still entering RFID lanes with insufficient load.

Driving through an RFID lane while having insufficient load balance is tantamount to obstruction

Note that entering an RFID lane with an insufficient balance is tantamount to an obstruction violation. Cases of this type of violation have alarmingly increased with a recorded 470 in the first quarter of 2022, and a whopping 1,014 in the first quarter of 2023.

While it wasn’t specified how many of those figures stated above were motorists who have entered RFID lanes with not enough balance, NLEX Corp. President Luigi Bautista nevertheless said that they can cause inconvenience to other expressway users.

Besides hassling other motorists, those cited with obstruction will then need to pay a fine of Php 1,077 to the Land Transportation Office (LTO). That’s on top of having to pay their toll in cash.

To that end, NLEX Corp. Is reminding everyone to be more aware of the state of their RFID accounts before traveling. This can be done through several methods. There’s the MPT DriveHub mobile app, which not only can check one’s RFID account balance, but it can also calculate toll costs, and be used as a means for reloading one’s account.

Other means for monitoring one’s RFID balance include the quick balance inquiry function on the easytrip.ph website. One can also call the 1-35000 hotline (press 1 for Easytrip) while you can also go to the myeasytrip website for RFID balance check. Moreover, checking one’s RFID can also be done by texting BAL your 12-digit account number to 0919-160-1553.

To further help in reducing cases of obstruction and to promote road safety, Bautista added that NLEX Corp. is continuing its information dissemination campaign, motorists' education initiatives, and enforcement. Through these, the tollway company hopes to reduce traffic violations to keep the RFID transactions on toll plazas quicker and more efficient.

NLEX Corp. likewise reminds all motorists that Easytrip RFIDs can now be used on Autosweep toll roads. For that, has to enroll their Easytrip RFIDs in Autosweep. For now, though, Autosweep is still not interoperable with Easytrip.
