The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has just announced that the overall progress for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project’s Phase 1 is now halfway complete.

This equates to an overall progress rate of 73 percent, and it covers the laying down of additional rails, the installation of its electrical system, and the building of five new LRT-1 stations for Phase 1. The said stations include the PITX Asia World Station, Ninoy Aquino, Dr. Santos, MIA, and Redemptorist.

With that kind of progress, one can safely say that the project is in full swing. Work is currently being done for the installation of the track plinth, the derailment wall, concrete pouring, and shear connectors.

The installation of tracks and an overhead catenary system on the viaduct will also continue adjacent to the Ninoy Aquino Station. As we’ve reported before, the outer northbound lane of the Imelda Bridge continues to be temporarily closed until November 10, 2022.

The said temporary lane closure is necessary for the casting of several structures like concrete plinths and pedestals.

Back in October 15 to 16, 2022, LRMC also concluded construction activity at the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) - Parañaque Bridge. This in turn, involved column and pier cleanup, and finishing works.

Likewise, the said works at the CAVITEX- Parañaque Bridge have also experienced temporary lane closures during the aforementioned dates.

Of note, LRMC is the private operator of the Light Rail Transit 1 (LRT-1). It is a joint venture under the Metro Pacific Light Rail Corporation, Ayala Corporation’s AC Infrastructure Holdings Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation, and the Philippine Investment Alliance for Infrastructure’s Macquarie Infrastructure Holdings.

It started to handle the operations of LRT-1 back in September 2015 via a concession agreement with the Department of Transportation and the Light Rail Transit Authority. The said concession is valued around Php 65 billion, and is valid for 32 years.
